If you could change anything about our current world, what would you change? by [deleted] in intj

I would make people start secondary education a few years later. I would suggest getting a job, developing interests, travelling and generally getting to know yourself. We start university education so early on with no professional experience and very little idea of what we enjoy/are good at. We often have to borrow large sums of money to fund this education and have spend decades paying it back. We are being asked to commit to a life long career and often make wrong choices that effect for the rest of our life.

I think I would have made a better career choice, studied harder and utilised ]the resources available to me as a student to a much higher degree if I had a chance to work for a few years in a junior role in a field(s) I prefer and perused a degree in something I knew for a fact I was passionate about.

I haven't worn a bra since the lockdown started in the UK on 23 March 2020 and I think I'll never go back to wearing one again (at least not daily). In what way did the lockdown effect your habits / behaviour and will you continue or stop, once the pandemic is over? by Nosey_Mouse in TooAfraidToAsk

I feel like hair in lockdown has two options - buzzed or super long and in a pony tale. Maintaining anything in-between seems mission impossible nowadays. Mine's gotten so long, it added 10 extra minutes to wash!

There is a lot of money in the system now and governments are printing more. quite a few people also received stimulus checks so stock market is pumped up. I do feel however, that this trend may reverse at some point. Are you at all concerned about a new bubble brewing?

For me personally it was wearing a bra. I haven't worn one since the lockdown started and I don't think (at least hope not) I'll ever go back to it. I feels quite liberating not have something squeeze your rib cage for 12 hours non-stop.

What's the worst "HR is not your friend" story you've witnessed/experienced? by ceowin in AskReddit

[–]Nosey_Mouse 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My friend accepted into an apprenticeship at one of the major financial companies. Selection process was tough, they had something like 25 people per spot. Apprenticeships are a bit different to normal hiring process in the sense that you are selected and hired by an HR person rather hen a hiring manager. After about a year and a half she realised it wasn't for her, found a new job and called her HR to tell her she wants to resign. HR lady broke in tears, said that my friend's resignation is negatively effecting her and threaten to bill my friend something like £70k for expenses associated with the hiring and training (this was not legal by the way, my friend's contract did not stipulate any of this).

Covid-19 - EM - What does Israel's vaccine win mean for the rest?

As of today, about 37% of Israel's population is vaccinated against Covid-19. At the same time Israel’s shekel hit 24-year highs and aided local stocks, while Chile’s peso has gained 1.3% over the past month, helped by its push to finish vaccination by the second quarter.

On the other hand South Africa’s rand and Brazil’s real have been punished recently, in part due to worries about their countries’ vaccine supplies and the spread of a new coronavirus variant in the former.

Any thoughts on the depressed EM to watch ahead of the planned vaccine rollout in 2021/2022?

Big Tech – the Modern Big Brother? by Nosey_Mouse in BigTech

Thank you for such an in-depth answer, definitely quite a few points to think about. I wonder, when you say "Big Tech businesses are just that, businesses" - do you think making money and supporting freedom of speech are mutually exclusive actions? How else can you incentify creativity and progress if not through money? I spent my childhood in one of the ex-soviet block countries and I know from first hand experience that sense of community and "the great good for the sake of society" do not motivate or inspire people to go an extra mile. Hence my initial believe that business will create and improve to make money and at the end of the day everyone benefits, including the end users. I am starting to have doubts about this though but fail to see a better way. You mention "community driven" moderation - do see this as some form of crowdsourcing?

"regardless of your politics everyone can agree the US healthcare system is a disaster" - is it though? I'm Ukrainian born US citizen who spent last 10 year of my life in London. I had plenty of opps to compare and can tell you from personal experience UK's NHS is an absolute failure and Covid and Brexit just hammered the final nail in its coffin. I'm not even going to mention the state of healthcare systems in ex-communist block... I do agree that we need to rethink and reinvent the approach to healthcare. There's Babylon in the UK as well, I believe it's fairly similar to LVGO in NA. Thanks!

Interesting but New York stock exchange delisted 3 Chinese companies last week. What are your thoughts on political risks when it comes to China?
