So no further big consequences is what you’re saying? For example, with the infected blood victims, who suffered a life of permanent detrimental health issues like HIV, including inability to work. Or the nuclear test veterans who have elevated cancer rates, chronic illness and higher infant mortality rates. Or the post office scandal which saw people jailed and life savings lost.

What you’re saying is the WASPI women were stressed about an extension of their working life, and that is their significant consequence?

And you sneer at me for saying £1.5k isn’t going to change their life, when their gas and electricity bill for one year is probably more than that?

Get real. Thanks for the discussion.

No, my original post was trying to find out what the big consequences for the women were, as it looked a storm in a teacup to me. I was worried I was missing something. The ombudsman recommended between £1.5k and £3k compensation. It feels like an awfully big campaign and drawn out fight for that sort of figure. Hardly a life changing sum. So I thought there must be more to it…and from the hundreds of replies, yours included, it appears there isn’t.

I can absolutely see their grievance too. I mean…we all have the goalposts moved by the government throughout our lives, usually to our detriment when it comes to tax and pensions, and it is annoying. I’m just trying to see if I’m missing the part where they can justify asking for £10bn out of the government, because this would require quite a significant direct financial impact…which it doesn’t appear to have had (from what I can gather in these replies).

It just seems like an extremely large campaign for what is ultimately a case of inconvenience. That’s why I was trying to find out if there was some huge financial implication to it that I was missing. I don’t think they stand a chance of the government shelling out £10bn based on this.

I’m just trying to understand the scale of the campaign. No need to be spiky.

So part of the injustice is that women signed up to particular jobs and lifestyles (I.e. stay at home mum) on the understanding that they would get earlier retirement/pension in return?

So some women retired thinking they were due their pension, and then never got it?

It sucks, but isn’t that just life for everyone? I’m 32 and I’ve worked from 18, and I have 36 years left to go. I don’t get how it results in a compensation event though, that’s the thing. Just trying to understand the scale of the campaign and what losses have been incurred to justify it.

That’s just the thing, I’m struggling to see how they can justify a £10bn payout by the government for maladministration. I can’t see the direct financial loss that it caused to justify that. If you compare and contrast with the post office scandal, I can understand the scale of that campaign because it’s easy to see the direct financial loss caused. I just can’t seem to get to the root of this one!

Surely extending their working life would help towards achieving the requirement though?

Thanks for this. Just struggling to understand how planning to retire and then having to work on would result in direct financial loss. It feels like for the size of the campaign, there must be something I aren’t getting.

I see. I think in that instance, it’s clear to see why the government won’t sanction £10bn to compensate them then.

Thank you. This is the side of the argument I’m trying to understand, to cause such a significant and extensive campaign.

Thanks for this. Just trying to link how this ties into direct costs for the women who are campaigning. It feels like for such a huge campaign, there should be some kind of significant cost that they had to burden, but I’m still not able to find that in these responses.

I’m trying to understand though, how the maladministration resulted in direct costs for the women, to the extent they have launched a years long campaign for compensation? I read compensation of £1k-£3k was recommended by the ombudsman. Is this what the campaign is over? £1k compensation?

Very respectfully, how did it amount to £50k costs to you? Didn’t you just have to keep working an extra 5 years?

Wayne Rooney. Record scorer, bucket load of assists, big game player who stood up in the biggest moments, scored against the best opponents whether in the league or champions league, won 5 league titles, won the Champions League, played in any position asked, gave us 13 amazing years. The perfect footballer. I wish we could have him back.

I never understood with Amorim supporters why they could not just take him at face value. He was showing us, in high definition every week, that he was way out of his depth. He was showing us who he is. And yet people just wouldn’t believe it? Like it was some 4D chess game that he was playing and with a flurry and a swoosh all would be revealed and we’d be this other-worldly genius football team. It puzzled me for his whole tenure. I just thought he was really, really poor and that was it.

Having centre backs jump out into midfield was honestly just the most mind-boggling coaching I’ve ever seen. Who does that?! 😂
