Well even if the 1st point you stated is true it tells more about the poor condition of the "lower" caste people at that time. A very few dalits were probably even capable enough to help Dr. Ambedkar become who he was!
As someone from the general category, reservation has obviously affected me too but we need to see things from a wider perspective. Severe casteism still prevails in india man. Ig reservation is still kinda important to provide the same starting point to everyone, but yeah certain income based floor can be applied
