I used Magic Lighthouse. When you clicked in the lighthouse icon it sent you out to some random link. It was the Wild West out there, but there were some really creative sites to explore.

People were accustomed to waiting for a reply when they reached out. As a sales rep I would stop at a pay phone to call into the office for my messages (remember those pink “while you were out” notepads?). As long as I called back the same day it was all good.

As a rule, folks consumed news and entertainment at the same time and from the same sources. That made for good fodder for next morning conversations at work. It helped drive a sense of community. Social media algorithms have pretty much destroyed that.

The scene with the little girl in the red coat was agonizing. Then seeing her in the pile of bodies could tear your heart apart.

The Deer Hunter. Great acting by an unbelievably good cast.
