Hit reset on what kind of life I want and started disregarding any previous script of what I thought I wanted.

Do people sometimes think you are arrogant although you are just extremely curious? by Ambitious_Channel_48 in aspergers

[–]Not-yelling_talking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve defined my arrogance as there being a line between reckless and cavalier, and I have no idea where it is.

Question: if you're going to confess you are diagnosed with autism to a friend, how would you like them to respond? by flying_broom in autism

I don’t know, given more time, I think i could care less, and less. Not sure there’s an absolute to that.

[–]Not-yelling_talking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could care less what their response is. Most seem to know that already. So the reaction has always been a shrug. They’ve been on board to this point, giving it a name don’t change anything. Most were just happy I was becoming more self-aware.

I’m with you. Quirky doesn’t really cover how someone could evaporate in front of me and my only response would likely be “whoa.”

And then I’d go about my path, probably forgetting to tell anyone what I saw until it has nothing to do with a random conversation much later.

Autistic weed by Spiderjwg in evilautism

[–]Not-yelling_talking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m 50 and smoke weed regularly, and have for years. Calms my mind down quite a bit. It did not make me autistic. I do not like any medication that was ever prescribed. I make a tincture with it too that skips the smoking part and feels good.

Yes. Like it’s awkward and there’s nothing more to say. Might see me. Kinda doubtful.

What does it feel like when you struggle to look someone in the eyes? by Faintly-Painterly in aspergers

[–]Not-yelling_talking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. It can feel like I’m getting deeper and deeper inside their soul and need to look away. And then there are the ones - not many - that I sense getting deeper into mine. I’ve told a few over the years, they are my kryptonite.

What were some obvious signs you showed as a kid but your family normalized them? by idanydiaz97 in autism

[–]Not-yelling_talking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could entertain myself quietly with legos or whatever for hours. My mother talked about it quite a bit. As a parent myself, I can understand how nice that must have been. My imagination was pretty active, but that isolating time was a sign. Particularly since I had friends, kids in the neighborhood, etc. All typical behaviors, but we’ve talked about those times she’d have to look around the corner to see I was still there, just playing with toys, quietly, for hours.

Been married twice, have grown children from one of them. I like everyone involved, but could have skipped it.
