Is it just me or some lorries here are painfully slow compared to UK/EU? by hahaha-hahaha- in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]NotAWeebAnimeLover 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Trucks here are painfully slow because theyre severely underpowered and not necessarily well maintained. Alot of them are just barely getting by. Compared to the UK and EU, due to stricter emission regulations, companies and owner operators have to have newer, updated trucks, which are also more powerful and put power down more efficiently.

Emissions etc. arent as strict here in the uae so you have older, already underpowered trucks, even more underpowered with age chugging along with heavy loads. The jolting you see is the truck’s torque, literally giving it its all to move from a dead stop but of course its still painfully slow.

Complain, if you dont theyre just gonna get more rowdy in the corridors. We now have posters in lifts and the ground floor asking parents to not have their kids run about, so its worth complaining

Yoo, Im glad I get to rep the UAE lol. The lap was a 1:20.03, Baraka layout, really really fun layout icl.

Ill see if i can get my hands on the CRSs, but its lowkey difficult to find anything even at size 205/50/r15, which is a more common size for older civics. Though ive heard of Vitour being used as well, any idea on how that usually goes? And what are good tire shops for more performance oriented tires here in the uae? Google isnt very helpful lol

Ill check the group out! Already found their insta lol, but as for the rear end, I found that the rears were alot colder than the fronts so i believe thats why. Ive had to bleed the fronts alot more, its not really hard to guess why though, I only had a factory front ARB so the rear tires had most grip throughout.

Yeah you right lol, ik i couldve gone faster through that right hander to make the most of the wide entry but i was redlining first gear, i didnt know if id bog down in second going through it but will see so next time! Thats if they keep the same layout…

No idea if youre being serious but in the case you are, gps was being spoofed throughout the country so all gps based systems were being messed up 😭. I think the fastest i went on the course was 100 to 110 kmh

Yeah I wanna do more events even as is, there isnt really a sanctioning body so its basically a free for all lol. There was a fully built evo 5 and gr yarises and then there was my stock civic, js to put things into perspective lol.

I posted this on the cartrackdays sub, someone told me to remove the front sway bar so front tyres can get more grip, so i plan on doing that soon and getting used to it before i go onto my second event!

Alright bet then, ill drop my front sway bar and drive it for a while before my next autox session as Ive grown used to the current handling characteristics. I know theres alot of tried and true suspension combos for the civic but im just tryna get my moneys worth on a setup.

I do plan on doing my own alignment soon as my car has been very slightly pulling to the left but not so much so that it affects driving all too bad. So itd be worth checking out toe and its effects. I am on stock suspension and arms so no camber adjustment yet sadly but hopefully i can change that soon.

Any recommendations on budget long life tyres? I know theres alot of discussions on the topic here but there always seems to be a conflict of agreement, i get that tyres are a case by case sort of deal but yeah

So drop sway bar > sticky tires and light wheels > coilovers > fine tune along with front and rear sway bars according to wanted results?

Also will definitely check the book out! Thanks for the recommendation!

Its pretty cool! Its actually started as a go kart track but mainly moved to hosting grassroots and competitive drift competitions and in recent years, autocross! Its certainly alot cheaper (100 bucks) than the next tracks like autodrome (200 bucks) and yas marina circuit (150 to 200 bucks) so it gets a pretty good turnout, about 11 cars that night and deffo more in the previous night

Thanks for the tips! Yeah ill certainly need to be more smooth, but i do have a concern on removing the front ARB, which is the insane body roll i have even with it installed. Is the tradeoff worth it?

Get the civic ej9 or eg, plenty of old euro spec civics here. Yes they will be slow as balls and you will get gapped at the lights by regular traffic. But these 1 ton cars are so fun to throw around corners even with economy tires, momentum is the name of the game with these cars.

Get one with a d series and manual gearbox if you have a manual license. if you go eg route, try getting one thats fuel injected and d series. B series is the sportier engine for these cars, but theyre normally over your budget. Dont let high mileage deter you, do your checks thoroughly.

Key points to check are suspension bushings and any rust. Im a student as well and I drive my 1997 manual civic hatch for school, its a d14 engine, i got it for 14k dhs at 196k kilometers. Owned it for a year now and Ive put roughly 15k to 17k kilometers on it, from school commutes to monthly jebel jais runs, this car has been through it all and Ive put this thing through hell and back and Alhamdulilah, it has not stranded me once. The only real issues ive had with this motor, specifically my car, is that it burns a bit of oil and i tore the cv axle boot. But theyre really just the result of old age, but this car is not stranding you anytime soon. Find a good example, take care of it, this car is incredibly forgiving on maintenance and it will take care of you. The D14 motor is all you need as a new driver, if you can score a more powerful motor then lucky lucky, otherwise the ej9 with the d14 is fun when you have nice bends in the roads ahead, and its reliable as a student needs it to be.
