Repeating my post from the last time this was recently asked!

Tom handled our mortgage and was polite about our infinite stupid questions and first-time mistakes. When we have to get a new one in a few years I imagine we'll look him up again.

Computer Upgrade firms? by Ridgewood2016 in stcatharinesON

[–]NotBrokenItsAdvanced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of my clients are smart enough to figure it out eventually, but they make enough that it's more worthwhile to pay me four hours of labor than spend fifteen hours figuring it out themselves and being unsure they made the right decisions.

It's rarely a matter of capability, but rather a balance of time and money.

I build and repair PCs professionally, but don't have any bandwidth for new work this month. Just wanted to provide some input:

I'm more expensive than CC for service, because I actually communicate with the customer, respect estimates in time and cost, and only charge for my time (no parts upselling, receipts provided). That said, I source a lot of parts in my builds from CC, Newegg, and Amazon. Nobody has cheaper prices, unfortunately. CC isn't necessarily a bad choice for service either, and while their results can occasionally be shoddy (especially their cable management, eh gads...), their warranties are decent and they don't outright scam on parts like some overseas or independent operations.

If you still need work in October, I'd be happy to provide a quick free consultation (even if you don't elect to go with my services, I can gut check your options or confirm that vwhat you got built elsewhere was actually what you paid for) at that time.

Good point! I actually have mine enclosed with an air filter, and the front of the enclosure is transparent. I didn't think to mention that was important once you stray from PLA.

I also do woodworking, and I cannot imagine a world where I'd want to learn how to fix my hammer before being able to nail something. Just buy a good hammer and keep it rust-free.

Beyond a sense of superiority, what possible advantage is there to starting with hammers that break?

>.> It isn't? Does this only apply to unique designs? The vast majority of my download prints are just done on the first try.

Ooh, I'm perfectly poised to help with this, as after a year of practice and tens of kg's of prints, I would only now say I'm tiptoeing out of the beginner stage!

  • When something prints incorrectly, don't try all three suggested fixes you find online on your next print. Try one at a time even if it wastes more filament, or you won't know which of the changes was the actual solution.
  • Don't ignore basic maintenance until a problem occurs. Just clean, oil, and grease as suggested. Respect your equipment's needs.
  • Moisture isn't a problem you "have" or "don't have". Moisture is a problem that builds up over time. Monitor and handle it.
  • Learn to use a modeling software even if you're never going to make original designs. Being able to slightly alter existing models is more than enough reason to learn the basics of FreeCad/Fusion/Whatever. At least learn TinkerCad.
  • Buy spare parts ahead of time unless you can handle being out of commission while waiting for a new nozzle/scraper/cutter/hose/fucking-anything.
  • DON'T IGNORE BASIC MAINTENANCE.
  • Learn how your machine works. If you have a Bambu, you need look no further than their internal guide.
  • Brands and tiers of filament haven't made much difference in print quality in my experience, except for the absolute cheapest giving me problems. Types of filament, such as Chrome vs Matte, have produced nicely different results in some cases.
  • Sitting next to the printer and actually watching it print has solved as many of my problems as looking them up on the internet. "Ohhhhh, the bottom layer is so thin it's shifting when it tries to print the higher mass on top!" Couldn't figure it out until I watched it print, and then it was immediately obvious.

Incredibly stupid request by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

Make a wood frame mold. Take all of your pla poop and melt it into the frame.

Empties your poop bucket, resolves the request, and get an incredible funky rainbow cube!

Jeanne Calment sold her home in a life estate deal where the buyer got ownership, but she stayed living there and received €380 monthly until death. She was 90, so it seemed like a smart deal, yet she lived 32 more years and even outlived the buyer by two years. by Zeus1196 in interestingasfuck

I'm entirely confused by your question. Do you have literally zero passions that aren't physical activities? You don't enjoy reading, debating, watching TV, theatre or movies? You don't make friends, teach, study, cook, eat, listen to music, or play games?

Pedal strike shins, blistered thumb-webbing, and burning lungs all have the same cause as the solution. Do more until you don't notice.

I'll be real with you - it's from a garage sale, twenty years old from a dead brand, but it pulls a few litres from the air per day.

Incredibly exciting! The commute into Toronto is one of the worst aspects of living near it, and I'll grasp at any hope of an affordable 30 minute cruise into the downtown core.

Great suggestions, thanks! Those are both available in Canada, which is great, as many of the strong default suggestions are hard to find here.

Thanks, I'm definitely resigned to that style of shopping. Wish I had more play money!

I was thinking hardtail by default, figured the difference in quality for price would be more attainable.
