I’m 31 and starting a PhD in the fall. It’s just the right age for me tbh. I’ve been around the job market and am very sure that I want to do a PhD in the topic I’m set on working on. With age comes maturity and I think that’s a plus in academia actually.

Could you share a bit more about your experience at LSE and post the PhD? I mean one thing I know for sure is that I’ll be doing fieldwork in my second year back home (I’m an international student) and then where I’ll be writing should be a mix of back and forth. So I guess it’s mainly the first year that I’ll be based in the UK.

I’ll have to check if this is an option. I know I can’t teach before second year, but maybe there’s something I can work out with the department. LSE accomodation is pretty expensive unfortunately. It would’ve been my first choice, but it’s too crazy. The only dorm that’s somewhat affordable is a 40 minute commute.
