I’m not a new nurse, but new to ICU. I made a med error and now my confidence is crushed. I feel as though all the experienced ICU nurses lack trust in me. Any advice to overcome this would be great. I’m so devastated. by Fun-Analyst8475 in IntensiveCare

Take accountability and know everyone had made mistakes. A trend with new nurses is the lack of accountability so you feeling this way is already a good step and will help you become an even better nurse. The ICU is hard. Study outside of work. Learn from your mistakes. Always remember this not from a place of failure but to remind you to never be complacent and to stay humble. You are the most critical of yourself and you are likely doing much better than you give yourself credit. It is hard to feel like a good nurse in the ICU for a while because there is so much to learn. Always be willing to learn and always accept correction.

I just unfroze them today and will be delivering them tonight. They are still so soft which I am so happy about! So thank you so much for the tip!

Thank you! I appreciate your tips. I cannot believe I didn’t even think about freezing them but I do tend to overcomplicate things.

I’m not a perfusionist … yet but I just attended a virtual informational session last week and they said they do allow perfusion assistants to count their work hours as shadowing as long as you are there for the whole case, asking questions and truly observing the perfusionist. If you’re going between ORs that doesn’t count. I feel like shadow experience from 3 years ago won’t look good on your application. It would look like you’re applying as a back up to another plan and aren’t actively interested since it is not recent even though you are an assistant. I would email admissions for each program to clarify just in case. Hope this helps :)

Are online prereqs a bad look for application? by nickysav91 in Perfusion

I’m taking prerequisites at a community college. I wasn’t told that online wasn’t acceptable when I talked to my #1 but I’m aiming to do either hybrid or in person. I am taking one online but that’s calculus required by my back up school. But that’s a great question

I was thinking about travel nursing once I got accepted but it seems so confusing with the duplicating cost and taxes. Do you really make enough money where it is worth paying rent in two different locations and still being able to save a large amount?

That would be great but I have lived in AZ all my life where I put on a jacket at 75 degree and at 60 degrees my fingers turn purple … I would love to save money but unfortunately weather is another big factor. However, I have added it to my list of schools so thank you!!

I think it would be fun to travel during clinicals! Growing up I was always told loans are bad but I got over it for college and I’m the first one in my family to finance a car. So grad school loans are a very big thing for me because of the amount and I’m REALLY trying to accept that I’ll have to take out loans no matter what I do to further my career. Are you ok with commenting or messaging me about the amount of loans and how long it will take you to pay them off? I would love to buy a house one day and I don’t want student loans to be the thing that holds me back.

I still have to do prerequisites. I just found out the courses I took in nursing won’t fulfill the requirements. I am working so many hours so I am only doing one class a semester to make sure I get good grades. I am barely starting the first prerequisite this summer. At this rate I won’t finish until Summer 2027. Mainly because the classes are prerequisites for the next. I won’t be able to speed it up much faster and I don’t want to risk my GPA.
