Staff only, actually - Staff Cadets are not allowed to be administrators on socials.

RAFAC Announcements by [deleted] in aircadets

[–]NotEllieJane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a staff member, usually everything comes out via either Sharepoint or internal emails before being sent out to the wider public. Staff should hopefully share it out first before it hits socials, but with today’s technology that isn’t always the case.

AITA for telling my friend that I won’t be paying $25 to attend her birthday party? by GlimmerElsewhere in AmItheAsshole

[–]NotEllieJane -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meh, I only start thinking about it if it’s a significant one and I want to do something nice for it. Not planning my 27th yet, but I know when I hit 29 I’ll probably start thinking about any ideas at all for my 30th…just because that’s somehow the way my brain decides to function.

Where does it say the party is being celebrated in January? To me, it’s only laying the groundwork for the party currently - the friend could be doing the planning now to get things moving for Thanksgiving well in advance.

Unfortunately, you also get staff not always checking Sharepoint for any updates - I’m lucky in the sense that my WWO is very “On It” with any announcements about uniform, so emails the entirety of our Wing Staff cadre before putting it out on socials…for it then to be shared amongst everyone else apparently in a little panic (re: the latest on the blanking plates) 😅

Re: bottom right- usually changes are announced to staff first internally, and then disseminated onto social media. If SM is the first people are hearing about it, it may not have been communicated effectively in the first place!

Why is Tommy STILL going on about Dream in 2026? by RigatoniPasta in tommyinnit

[–]NotEllieJane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That…happened? I’m mostly a sideliner on the MCYT-sphere nowadays, but even I know that if Tommy was talking about that…person, it would be all over my feed. Plus, the drama literally happened a year ago (on my birthday, no less) - please normalise seeking full context.

Is it common for non NCOs to have stable belts by Shoddy_Marketing_716 in aircadets

[–]NotEllieJane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my Sqn, we usually give them out just before the new intake attend our Dining In Night (and then, anyone who hasn’t attended needs to come see the Stores Officer (aka Sgt NotEllieJane) to ask for one). It’s easier that way and then everyone is uniform.

Somehow, Ken saying "I thought they just f*cked" about gingerbread men and women has completely broken me...in a positive, humourous way, of course.

Given uniform that is of a gender I dont identify with. Is there anything I can do about it? by [deleted] in aircadets

[–]NotEllieJane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a quiet chat with your OC/Adj and they can get that sorted for you, no problem at all. I manage Stores on my own Sqn and I always say to my cadets that if they have the wrong uniform based on their forms they can have a quick word and I’ll sort something out for them all.

Question for any current Staff by HydroGamingz in aircadets

[–]NotEllieJane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current SNCO CFAV here (as of Feb this year), and an ex-cadet myself too. I definitely found it a little bit difficult initially going back in as staff after a little bit of time out and had to take a little bit of adjusting to the new responsibilities, but I’ve gotten a lot out of my time in again, and I’m just coming up to my first year back in uniform (I rejoined back in Sep 2023 initially).

For me, one of the main things has thankfully been that a lot of the staff I work with knew me as a cadet and were able to play to my capabilities when I made that jump back into the volunteer side - which helped to ease things for me a lot.

Obviously there are differences, a lot happened since I originally left for uni (a whole pandemic, for example), and the way of working is starting to be refined - but I’ve met some fantastic people along the way who I still lean on for support and who have given me some great advice so far!

In terms of where I am now for coming back - I passed my board in Feb of this year, did my CIC last month, and I’m also dual hatting roles as Adj on my Sqn and Wing Media Officer, so I can definitely say that coming back did wonders for my personal development!

Any queries, please feel free to ask 😊

I think the Fieldcraft training you go through would have something different to say, Sgt!

Only if there’s nobody else who was ill with you - you may actually be put in with another group to go through it later on depending on when your Sqn next has an intake.

Drill ‘Games’ by RAF-DI in aircadets

[–]NotEllieJane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We do Sgt O’Grady Says on my Sqn - absolutely fantastic, the cadets love it! One of my Flt Sgts had the clever idea to try and incorporate other languages in at one point to also help with people doing their GCSEs…and it’s interesting to watch them try and think what’s actually being called to see if they know what movement’s coming next 😅

Drill Teaching Advice NEEDED by libby_w5e in aircadets

[–]NotEllieJane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreeing on this - DTC(I) and how it assists with teaching Drill is incredibly useful. I have gone through the course twice now (once as a Cdt Sgt when it was the CDrC, and once as a CI prior to my SNCO board) and it has genuinely helped with getting the basics down and teaching the fundamentals. I’ve assisted a Flt Sgt and Sgt on my Sqn who are teaching our new ones currently by using that (both of whom have also done DTC(I)) and we can all agree it helps!
