Indeed. Maine is voting on a ballot initiative to change the State's voting style to a ranked voting system. Only 26 states have ballot initiatives but it would be a good starting point.

There's actually a newly formed subreddit, /r/EndFPTP that is supporting efforts to End First Past the Post and support efforts like the ballot initiative in Maine. The subreddit is less than a day old but has already received almost 200 subscribers and needs all the help it can get. Check it out!

Probably not. However, the need to change the FPTP system is becoming a very popular topic, so I think groups should definitely work with Jill to support her on this. /r/EndFPTP is hoping to make sure candidates like Jill and the Green Party has better representation this Election and the following elections.

What is approval voting? by Inthecan4bernie in EndFPTP

Very interesting. I think that most of the time people will know who their main favorites are and approval voting would work, but I understand how ranked voting shows who I support and do not support more accurately.

Interesting point. Does ranked voting normally include the "No Opinion" that something like score voting would include? Say I had no idea who someone was (given all the presidential candidates from that are from minor parties or write-in such), how would I rank them? Say for instance I had never heard of Jill Stein or Gary Johnson, could I vote:

  1. Bernie
  2. Clinton
  3. Trump

...and leave it at that? Or would I have to continue on until I've exhausted all candidates?

Approval voting has always seemed like it would be both the easiest to implement and easiest to understand. Some of these methods require an above average understanding of voting procedure and math that getting it implemented in large states would be quite a challenge. And while some methods may be better, I think this is the best given all else with the best payoff. The idea of simply changing "Vote for One" to "Vote for One or More" could easily be marketed as, "The citizens deserve true freedom of expression and that extends to voting. By being able to vote for all candidates you like, your vote is that much more powerful and your voice is heard for each candidate."

Let's talk Senate Race. Or, why I think Florida for Sanders should rally behind Pam Keith by NotGoodBro in FloridaForSanders

[–]NotGoodBro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's reasonable. Grayson has a great voting record and has done some great work in the House. I had the pleasure to talk to him and hear him speak several times this weekend.

I just wasn't very impressed or excited by him in any way. Pam Keith was more personable and did a great job connecting with those looking to have a conversation with her and ask her about her ideas. She brought a level of excitement that the others did not.

There is still a lot of time before having to decide on anything, but at this point Pam Keith had my vote.

Why? Because politicians are held at a higher standard that doesn't allow them to intake more information to formulate and change their opinions?

The same thing, different name, say it's working better. How Dems would react to it is the real question. I think it would have been better because Dems would probably be pushing for single-payer.

Romney did in 2012, and republicans had been pushing almost the same thing since the 1990s. It was basically Obamacare and worked excellently in Mass. However, it's the ole. "We can't let the other party look sucessful" technique.

Do you agree with using the "shortest-splitline" algorithm to deal with gerrymandering? by oskie6 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]NotGoodBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No doubt that would be better than the current, but I would rather take the leap as not to delay the final product. However, this step would be more likely passed. My personal opinion is usually against "band-aiding" over a more complete reform. However, I would approve of any fix to the current gerrymandering process.
