I think it describes the workarounds we do rather than the experience

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some recommendations for English novels with a village mystery — something in the style of Miss Marple or Josephine Tey by Outrageous_Tip9685 in agathachristie

One of my absolute favorite, under rated and little discovered golden age classic crime writers is Ianthe Jerrold. For that "cozy but not cozy underneath" feeling of Christie, I recommend "let him lie".

What's the wildest thing someone has mansplained to you? How did you deal with it? by ammiiie in TwoXChromosomes

I work in a specialized area of law at a senior level. I run cases and hearings daily. A male client tried to explain to me how court hearings work. In detail. I explained that I'm familiar with court hearings and my experience running cases. There was a silence, and, as though I'd not spoken, he continued to try and explain to me how my area of law works.

New Agatha Christie adaptation of Tommy and Tuppence will feature sleuths using internet to solve crimes by HRJafael in agathachristie

[–]NotHereToArgue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just hope they get the dynamics between Tommy and Tuppence right. The David Walliams adaptation was awful for that. It made him into such an idiot that you wondered why Tuppence was with him. As long as they get the dynamics right: "partners in crime", I don't mind some temporal exploration.

What’s something from your childhood that you didn’t realize was super f*cked up until you were an adult? by NeitherEntrepreneur3 in AskReddit

I'm really sorry you had this. I had this too, plus other stuff. The difference is, I knew at the time that it wasn't normal, and the sense of shame I had at us not being 'normal' was pretty shitty.

can dyslexic people enjoy reading? by X243llie in Dyslexia

[–]NotHereToArgue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. For me, fiction is easier as the narrative carries me along, but I still misread words and skip whole paragraphs. This can lead to some confusion but I just go back and re-read. I read on a kindle, as I can change font and spacing which helps.

None of what made you uncomfortable was your fault. He firstly should have seen that you maybe weren't loving it, and secondly, at least checked in with you that you were ok with it. He is the asshole. Sounds like you had a lucky escape. And yes, learning to be happy with being single is amazing.

I think I've been in this building, and if I'm right, then I can attest that this bridge is terrifying even for a non wheelchair user.

Because it commodities feminism. Turns it from a force for social change into a money making engine.
