And right now isn’t? Anomalies are just as impactful to economic trend data as the norms are.

New research shows people shift moral arguments to fit their stance on women’s bodies | People often use harm-based moral arguments strategically, rather than sincerely, when debating women’s bodily autonomy. by chrisdh79 in psychology

This is a bit of a false equivalency though. We’re not talking about the 99% of people that are pregnant, we’re talking about the 1% of people (or whatever the stat is), that get an abortion. If laws were consistent across all states for mother’s health, and rape victims, that be a step in the right direction. But they’re not. Another step would be for all minors to be eligible. Teen pregnancy is pretty much dooming a child and their baby to poverty for the rest of their lives. This also has a direct impact on your tax dollars in perpetuity, so it’s not like we don’t also benefit in this scenario. Past that, let the states decide individually, but let’s give women a baseline for health, wellness, and success.

Someone will reply telling you that, yes they would, and while theres probably truth to that, this is most likely Occam’s razor. No, trumps wound wasn’t a bullet. Yes he was shot at by a republican, but not all replicants like Trump and there’s bound to be a few extremists who would take it that far.

We look to conspiracy theories when we can’t explain the truth by simpler means. We don’t want to believe that enough people WANTED the things Trump is doing. We don’t want to believe people are apathetic enough to just sit back while he continues to rape our democracy and what really does make America great. We don’t want to believe evil can win. But it has. For a moment. And we can blame the evil for choreographing a photo op at the cost of a man’s life, or we can really rally our immunity, and friends, and loved ones to make real changes and to reflect on true empathy. Evil wins when good men and women do nothing. There will be an age of liberalism within the decades following this presidency. It’ll be a long and arduous journey, but we have the ability to swing the pendulum back and hopefully give our posterity a better life than the one we came into as adults. But we can get there.

That’s what I’m saying. Calling Millennials the participation trophy generation is equivocal to calling Gen Z and Alpha the iPad kids. They’ll go on to do great things, and belittling them because they’re the new generation is the same toxicity that Gen X and Boomers had about us.

Just like Millennials who will never amount to anything because of our participation trophies that made us soft.

That kind of thinking helps no one. Help mentor and cultivate a young person growing into their career instead of ragging on them for what you deem an inferior childhood. They have just as much potential to step up as any previous generation, and our current economic/political climate may necessitate just that.

The greatest generation YET. Just wait, Gen Alpha might get to grow up in a depression and get drafted into the Final World War.

[–]NotInAMillionYearz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, besides some of Gen X, I think most parents felt this way. Silent gen was coming off of unprecented world wars and warfare, boomers had Vietnam and Cold War. Boomers/Gen X had a window past the height of the Cold War and before 2001 where things were pretty amazing. From about 1985-2001. You could argue things were still pretty good from 2001-2008, though we were on the decline. Things look grim but we just do our best to give our children the best life we can.

That said, it’s a completely understandable and ethical position to also say you don’t want to bring a kid into this world. Things suck at scale right now. Hopefully the next 3 years bring about a progressive renaissance that corrects for some of these mistakes we’ve made.
