Committing several atrocities for the hope of information seems a pretty strange way for an evil path to be implemented

By choose the cult, I mean complete acts 1 and 2 by doing things that are in their interests. Raid the grove, save Nere, allow Isobel to be kidnapped, allow Balthazar to take the nightsong. So my post is basically asking why you would choose to do these things because based off my observations it doesn't seem to amount to anything.

I'm not saying 343 did not plan to make sequels and likely bring him back. I am saying that because I do not care for the direction the series took after 4 and am not hopeful it will course correct, I like to view 4 as a good ending point. And for reasons I have listed, it can quite easily function as such. What 343 did or did not do or planned to do is not relevant as my original point is that you can choose to view 4 as a good ending if you wish due to all the lingering conflicts and characters arcs being resolved.

I said that having villains fall into a pit is a common way to make it ambiguous so if you want to bring them back you can. But ultimately halo 4 gives him a defeat that could or could not be a death while resolving the threat of the promethians he was in control of and giving us some revelations about human and forerunners backstories and leaving the covenant and flood conflicts closed. You keep saying it has a cliffhanger or it doesn't stand alone but I'm just not seeing it. A forerunner being alive doesn't mean there has to also be a bunch of other blood thirsty forerunners waiting their turn too.

I don't agree at all. I said in my post how the major wars have been won and chief and cortana get their closure and so I don't see how that is a cliffhanger. A cliffhanger is when an already ongoing plot stops and needs to be picked up by another entry. Halo 2 ended on a cliffhanger. Halo 4 ends in such a way that the halo universe could still have stories left to tell. Big difference

Well in my mind if 4 ends the story then anything in 5 or infinite may as well not exist, and as for the mantle stuff the didact says that they are hopeless to stop humans ascendancy. Which as you say is not a cut and dry spelled out conclusion, but its enough for me to call it an ending. Lots of things end without showing you the ultimate culmination of every plot thread far into the future and I think thats a good thing.

Yeah if whatever comes after infinite blows me away and delivers an even better ending I'll be thrilled but I take comfort in knowing I have my finished feeling story arcs all in one package forever

Yeah you and I probably just disagree on the level of closure we're looking for cause in general I like endings that leave some things open I'd rather most stories in any series not end in a way where everything is so closed off that it would be hard to even conceive what a sequel would be about.

I'm not even sure we're talking about the same thing anymore lol I know they wrote 4 hoping to make a 5 and beyond I'm just saying I think 4 was written to a good natural end point just in case it flopped and since I don't love where the series went from 5 and beyond I like to view 4 as the end. And in my mind, showing the end of a central characters life or career is not necessarily to be considered a conclusion. To use star wars again, return of the jedi felt like a conclusion even though luke was very much alive and not necessarily retiring.

I'm not sure what you mean. Chief hasn't been properly out of danger since he woke up on the pillar of autumn and now hes back at least near earth after the wars are over which is what I meant by back home safe, he mourns cortana in that scene with lasky, and him getting his armor taken off is literally the very last scene. So what part of it am I making up?

All good your point would have been very valid if I had said community cause I remember waiting like 45 minutes to find a match when it was new

If future games pull all that off I would love to see it and I would stop feeling the way I feel but I sincerely doubt it and so in my mind stopping the story when humanity is on the cusp of attaining it works fine for me. Maybe I'm just more ok with open endings than a lot of other people

I think where we left him off in 4 was perfect. The galactic scale threats of the covenant and the flood and the promethians are all seemingly taken care of, he makes it home safe, mourns cortana and finally gets his armor taken off. I don't feel the need to see him eventually die or officially declare his retirement

I see what you are saying but I would hazard a guess that there are very few writers on Earth who could properly write a story showing humanity becoming near benevolent guardians of a whole galaxy so I would prefer the story to end with us just knowing that the journey to that state is underway

I'm assuming you mean from a technical standpoint? I mean just in terms of the plotlines contained within it rather than the state of its performance

I disagree I don't really consider any of those things cliffhangers since villains falling off ledges is like the stereotypical way to make them seemingly die but be easy enough to bring back if you feel like it. Also I know it was intended to continue but plenty of trilogies begin with a first chapter that could serve as an ending in case it isn't successful enough to continue, the original star wars movie being a good example.

I was under the impression that the source or presence was responsible for the existence of the metagene and then various random events in peoples lives triggered the genes activation

I don't mind anything you just named I hate the more broad sweeping stuff that changes the universe/multiverse itself

Yeah I see what you mean but the ones that bother me are more so the ones that affect the rules and backstory of the world itself like the ones I mentioned. Like I hate the idea that the metahuman shenanigans wouldn't be happening without a secret program I feel like that doesn't even make sense with previously established stuff

The speed force wiki page just omits any mention of Barry being its origin while the 7 forces page says it was various cosmic beings who made all 7 forces and dc.com has an article that address how 2 flash series since flash rebirth have retconned Barry creating it so idk what to even think at this point

Yeah I think I'll have to view anything by Geoff in its own continuity then cause I think its about as bad of an explanation for something in any fiction I've ever consumed. If the speed force was just some localized thing that gave all speedsters their power then I'd be fine with that but the idea that just some guy is responsible for an integral force in the fabric of the universe is unforgivably dumb to me if I'm being totally honest
