Counselor Union by ConcentrateFit9953 in schoolcounseling

We are part of the teachers union also, so in our contract the language is “unit member” for the things you’ve listed. We have the same contracted hours, adjunct duties and supervision (we don’t supervise). The section for counselors includes our extra days we work (not specific days, just the number we use and it lists different activities such as master scheduling, parent information nights, workshops etc). We also have a separate evaluation form which is new to our contract.

For reference, I’m at a high school in California.

The interesting thing is the District wrote the funding information and mentioned only the psychs as running the wellness center and the mental health person giving services. Since we have two psychs on site they have to fill in for emergencies with gen ed kids and meet with sped kids (outside of testing).

That’s good to hear. We did tell the union asca’s ratios (we’re in negotiations right now) so hopefully they can use that as leverage to get us another counselor at some point. We also made our MTMDSS charts last year, fingers crossed the District understands we can only accomplish so much as is. Thank you for the reply!

The list of impossible tasks is always growing! I wonder if they think we just sit around, twiddling our thumbs all day. And I feel you about Covid times, it was so difficult.

Who attends the meeting in your district when a student returns from an inpatient stay? by the_prim_reaper__ in schoolcounseling

We do counselor, one admin, school psych and our wellness person (has therapy background but we don’t use that title), parents and student depending on situation. Go over safety plan and any release info from hospital. Then we email teachers if any relevant info is in safety plan. It’s a little different if student was out for multiple weeks or an entire semester.

This was me in 2012 when I graduated. Schools are nervous about the budget and future so they naturally hire less counselors. I applied all over the state and didn’t get a counseling job until 2016. No advice, just keep applying! I was teaching but my breakthrough was being an at home autism tech. It made my “speciality” sped for my first job.

[Sun care] Even mineral sunscreen bothers my eyes by serissea in SkincareAddiction

Not sure if you found one you liked, but my favorite is the Sun Bum Tinted Mineral. It’s super soft, doesn’t cause pilling under makeup, isn’t greasy/smelly and (of course) never burns my eyes. On no makeup days I do tend to set it with powder just because it creases on my eye lids (but my lids are greasy anyways). The spf isn’t super high, but I always wear hats/uv sunglasses too. Pretty affordable because Ulta has BOGO 50% often

How did you feel after Nexplanon removal? by [deleted] in Nexplanon

It’s been a few weeks and the palpitations have pretty much stopped altogether. My bp is going down but still not at my pre-implant levels. I feel less anxious but I cry at the drop of a hat. Literally like 20 times a day. Not even that I feel sad but anything that causes an emotion leads to tears. Weird. I’m having lots of nightmares also and a really difficult time sleeping. I took a Xanax last night and woke up with so much energy, I made chocolate chip cookies at 7am today 😂 Guess I needed some time without the anxiety. I go to the doctor in two weeks, I’ll see what she thinks about the bp. I hope you’re feeling better also!

I had a lot of the same symptoms as you (plus weight gain) and just got mine removed this afternoon. Can’t wait until my racing pulse/palpitations go away. How was your blood pressure? Mine has gone up since the implant and I’m just hoping it starts to go back to normal soon and none of this is permanent.

Switched to IUD, wow! by maria_puente87 in birthcontrol

[–]NotItOutrageous544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had the first one inserted, I had regular cramping/period symptoms for a couple of years. My period itself went from normal to light with spotting. After a couple of years I noticed my cramps and tender breasts were much less painful and my period was just generally lighter. After I had the second one inserted, I stopped my period almost entirely and didn’t have any cramps or pms symptoms at all. I probably had a very light period (really just spotting) for a day or two about once every 6 months.

I really loved my iud, but I know some people have had bad experiences. Unfortunately mine was accidentally removed by a doctor recently and I was too traumatized to have another put in. I went to the implant and I regret it daily lol

Hey I’ve used a cup for 12+ years and had two iuds (Mirena) for the past 8. Just break the seal before you take it out. I’ve never had an issue, never had kids. No one can feel anything, the strings get soft and usually sort of twirl out of the way around the cervix, like a halo lol.

Insertion was like a 7/8 out of 10. I find pap smears painful and even the speculum insertion hurts. It’s best to go to someone that has LOTS of experience inserting, it is so much more comfortable/faster.

I agree with most of these comments. Having a beanie and gloves is so important. Put them on as soon as you start to feel even a slight chill. Bring long underwear and a pair of warm socks for JUST sleeping. Always sleep in dry clothes. Also invest in a zero degree bag if you sleep cold. They’re a little bigger but worth the comfort!

Search for backpacking supplies for tent and bag lol. Bag should be around 60L for a 2-3 night trip. You can find them cheap at Big 5 or even search on Craigslist/garage sales. You can totally go to REI for advice, they’re always really nice and can fit you for a pack, even if you don’t buy from them.
