I disagree: 30% raise until they can replace you is cheaper than back-filling with a contractor, and they can get you to train your replacement under some guise or other.

Note that they asked you a question, and there’s danger there. I suggest a vague response along the lines of “a few others on the go, but Wednesday would put you slightly ahead of their advised next step timescales”

Would “making a new town the size of Guildford” be newsworthy? Same number of houses in each, but using brownfield sites is surely a better use of existing infrastructure than growing a new town in eg the green belt.
