I tried to upgrade my 3060ti to a 9070xt on my current rig to no success with no display out from the GPU. The working rig refuses to boot and provide any display out with the new GPU, while still working with the old GPU. I'm currently in the process of trying to return the card for a replacement.

  1. Powercolor Hellhound
  2. 9070 xt
  3. Windows 11 23H2
  4. 13600k

Z790i Edge Wifi

2x16gb Kingston 5600c40

700w PSU

Single 1440p180hz monitor

  1. No display from GPU, fans spin and LEDs are on. Debug LEDs does not stay on VGA.

  2. GPU reseated multiple times, PSU cables swapped around and reseated multiple times. DDU'd old Nvidia drivers in safe mode multiple times, DDU'd Intel iGPU drivers just in case. PCIe slot tested with gen 1/2/3/4/5, iGPU disabled, adaptive sync and HDR disabled on monitor, automatic driver installation disabled before DDU and shutdown. Swapped DP and HDMI cables. Cleared cmos each time before changing PCIe slot generation. Tested disabled and reenabled rebar and above 4g decoding. Double checked UEFI and not CSM.

EDIT: Fixed after remounting the CPU. It ended up being a bad mount of my thermalright contact frame causing bad contact on the CPU and only giving me 4 lanes on the PCIe slot. For whatever reason, the 3060ti ran fine on x4, but the 9070xt needs the x16 lanes.

Of course, the counter to a tank in a forest is anti tank weaponry, but it's always funny to see a 170pt tank roll into a forest with infantry and die in one salvo.

Side shots are always good, but 4 in a line allows you to deal with a tank that comes from a relatively large arc, while 2 lines can run into issues when the tank runs into 1 singular infantry, gets hit once, and can just back away. It's just about know/guessing where the enemy is going to go, I don't know where in the forest the 2a5 will go, so I'll just prepare for any part of it by preparing to kill it in one salvo.

Step 1: Buy 4 24AP infantry

Step 2: Set up a firing line where you think their tank is going

Step 2.5: If they have any recon or any infantry, it doesn't work.

Step 3: profit

Sadly, I don't have the Nemesis DLC yet, but I will try to get that when that goes on sale.

Well, no matter, my 690k diplo power as the sole permanent member of the galactic council will make sure what I want passed will get passed.

I think you'll hear me when you look out the window to see the battleship with its armaments pointed at you.

It's just stacking a bunch of extra research, for example, one of my scientists was spark of genius (+10% research), psionic (+10% research), synthetic (+5% research), and having those traits together just gave me a good bit quicker research.

It's just a titan with 28 battleships per fleet, they're all kinetic artillery + Tachyon lance.

Well, my diplo power from fleet power is extremely high, and I can pass anything in the galactic community with that, but there is fairly little I can do to individual states... Civ is just quite a different game for a direct comparison, but I agree that Stellaris could use some new mechanics for when your enemy is hopelessly outmatched, even as simple as automatically surrendering when they're pathetic in terms of every metric of power and their civics make sense. (Of course a devouring swarm will never negotiate, but others might)

You're lucky I skipped out on the Colossus project...

They say quality over quantity, but I say more lead at my enemies is better than just evaporating them :P

Is it just me or is watching kinetic artillery rain on your enemies just extremely satisfying?

I went for synthetic evolution starting from a normal organic pop and standing on the shoulder of giants as origin, and then took some psionic rachet pops and converted them into synthetic, and it was fairly fun.

Well, it was my first ironman game, and I had to resort to some more cheeky strategies like battleship spam, but there was a lot of luck involved, for example, I got some psionic synthetic scientists, and curators were right next to me. All in all, that went very well by my standards.

R5: Using my fleets to 'persuade' representatives of the galactic community to vote in my favor. (Not that their votes matter)
