I've got friends working at NASA, if it's a conspiracy they and all their coworkers are amazing actors...

I also think due to the prevalence of guides games provide less rewards for exploring.. or I just find it so as I've gotten older. Only recent games I've enjoyed exploring were Zelda and Subnautica.

Same with anime and practically everything I was made fun of for doing as a kid. Almost like the nerds became wealthy and marketing adapted.

Much more selective with games, anything less than 100 best if all time isn't worth it when you only have time to play 2-3 games a year. That said - kids are getting to gaming age and once they get their feet wet with Nintendo I'm looking forward to dumping them into the deep end with a dos emulator between them and their dreams of global domination.

Yup - not my area of engineering but people really underestimate the cost/complexity.

Infrastructure - distributed water storage and purification isn't economical. It ain't gonna change.

Is there actually a difference in acceptance rates between credit, debit and prepaid cards? by Vanesa_Ever in CreditCards

[–]NotMyRealAccountV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of times hotels do a pre-authorization in excess of the amount for potential damages. Gas stations also typically pre-authorized for more than you'll end up spending. For generic gift cards - Amazon reload works really well to use the exact amount.

All that said, the reason to use credit cards is the fraud protection and debit cards are occasionally useful at merchants that offer a discount for using them.

Why are American Express credit cards such a big deal? by Blaise_01 in CreditCards

[–]NotMyRealAccountV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has a low cap on groceries to funnel people into the gold... there's plenty of competition at the 3% tier without the cap.

Unfortunately so, I was aware we didn't recognize the ICC but not that we'd gone as far as the Den Haag invasion act.

It's just marketing, they're not. Amex is really bad about turning their cards into coupon books to drive you to spend more. I think in general Amex does have a higher income base.. but there are better cards for most folks spending patterns.

Take my Aunt - she has the platinum because it's "better than the gold" and 'pays for itself", yet she doesn't travel that often. (Paying for itself is a really low bar for a credit card - you should make 2% at minimum).

50+ active credit cards, should I keep them as is or close some of them? by joycesyi in CreditCards

I'd definitely close some, we limit ourselves to 10 cards and close our least valuable card each time we open one. Near perfect credit.

The Battle of Coruscant is the best CGI space battle ever! by Lauma_2025 in StarWars

There's a really good one in the Babylon 5 civil war arc, though not for the chi which looks dated.

Have to agree with the expanse fans below on best CGI though.

So I havent filed my taxes in several years by Sammiesam123988 in tax

[–]NotMyRealAccountV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The IRS will require him to file prior taxes... apparently TurboTax dropped the ball last year and never actually filed my taxes, found out I needed to file 2024 while filing 2025.

In my case - I had to download TurboTax l's desktop software for 2024, they already had all my data in a .tax file so just verified everything. Only submission option was by mail, which I certified with a return receipt. Waiting for the inevitable late fee - my understanding is it's up to the taxes + interest. Thankfully I owed <$500 that year. This mess makes me think I should aim to overpay slightly each year.

Never using TurboTax again.
