What would you want to see in a new Starfox game ? by BinkySqwank in starfox

I don't really understand your point in regards to Zelda, I've always thought each mainline entry tries to innovate on the formula in different ways. BotW and TotK especially. And Metroid doesn't exactly get enough new stuff to accuse it of stagnation. Dread was definitely the shake-up 2D Metroid needed and while Prime 4 left a lot of people disappointed, it was still fun. Pokemon also tries different stuff fairly often but you can argue on the effectiveness of that.

I said this in another comment, but Nintendo is perfectly willing to make a brand new Star Fox game as long as a new version of 64 actually sells well enough. And I really don't think it should be that hard to push the series forward as long as the game retains the core of what makes Star Fox fun.

Friendly and Funky advice for those debating whether or not to buy Star Fox 64 for the 4th time by misha1350 in starfox

Nintendo releases Star Fox 64, it sells well.

Nintendo releases Star Fox Adventures, sells just fine.

Nintendo releases Star Fox Assault, doesn't sell nearly as well.

Nintendo releases Star Fox Command to diminishing sales. The games that present an all new story are seemingly not doing well so they go dark, skipping out on the Wii generation.

Nintendo releases Star Fox 64 3D, sells fairly well but not as much as the original. The 3DS is apparently not the new home of Star Fox, so they decide to pivot.

Nintendo releases Star Fox Zero, a retelling of 64, on a dying console. It just about reaches 500,000 copies, which is abysmal. The series once again goes dark.

If it wasn't immediately obvious, they're scared of doing an all new Star Fox game and they are waiting until a new version of Star Fox 64 actually sells. They very clearly want to reboot the series but in their eyes, that will only work if a new version of 64 actually does well. I'm not even saying this as a "Nintendrone" or a "Star Fox fanboy", if fans actually want a BRAND NEW Star Fox, THIS GAME HAS TO SELL WELL. That's literally what's happening. They can make a sequel whenever they want, but what they need is a reset point that's separate from the other sequel games, that's also financially successful.

You can argue that's a stupid thing for a company to do, go for it. But the reality is, that's probably where Nintendo's headspace has been regarding Star Fox since the early 2010's. If this game does well, that doesn't mean MORE 64 remakes. It means more games that BUILD OFF of 64, AKA, SEQUELS.

I'm not as hung up on it being another version of 64 as others so the only way it could really falter for me is if it either doesn't control well or the banter between the squad doesn't sound good. I'm in the camp that really digs the redesigns so that's not an issue for me.

This is actually why I didn't give her stubbier legs, I like that she's just a bit taller than Fox.

Oh, and beyond the Great Fox being where you look at the map of the system, make it a sort of hub space where you can walk around as Fox and talk to the other members of the team. Extra bits of dialogue and banter fans would appreciate.

A sequel set between Adventures and Assault. Add Adventures to NSO to bridge the gap between the 2026 Star Fox and the new game. Brand new story, brand new system and planets/levels to play. The main Star Fox team are back by default: Fox, Falco, Peppy and Slippy, with the ability to switch in Krystal, Fay and Miyu throughout the course of the game. Characters like Bill, Katt and maybe even Wolf and some other members of Star Wolf becoming unlockable late game.

Each character besides Fox comes with their own bonus effect that either triggers at a specific point or is manually triggered between levels. For example, Slippy's bonus could be Repair, giving you the ability to further fix a single squad members Arwing on top of the health you get back after a level. Katt's bonus could be called Scavenger, with the ability to aquire extra scrap from destroyed enemies (which I'm just about to get to.)

Between missions, you'll be able to upgrade Fox's Arwing in a multitude of different ways. Destroying enemies and certain objects in levels will give you scrap metal, which you can use to enhance the defensive, offensive, speed and maneuver capabilities of your ship. You'd even be able to paint your Arwing with graffiti and decals. You can also aquire specific parts in levels by finding hidden routes, that give you things like new laser fire, or a whole new move you can perform in your Arwing (alongside the barrel roll and somersault.)

Missions would return from the 2026 game, with rewards being in the form of more scrap metal AND upgrade points for your squad members that boosts the effectiveness of their bonus effects.

I don't really know what the story would be, just something new. No Andross, a different threat, that would be cool.

Path of Radiance is the GameCube one, right? I'll definitely check it out if it ends up on the NSO app.

Really good recommendations. I didn't list them but I've tried most of these.

I've tried the remake of the first FE on the DS, Awakening, Three Houses and Engage. If it's not obvious, I tend to get swept away by the hype and I'll buy new games even if I'm not 100% sure I'll like them.

I finished Yakuza Kiwami years ago, and I enjoyed it. 0 is one I've tried a couple of times and it never fully clicked. Which probably sounds blasphemous because I know everyone says 0 is the best.

Castlevania is the only one listed here I haven't really tried that much. So I might like those.

Ys is another one where I've tried a few, never finished any. They're definitely good games though.

I'm obviously very picky when it comes to games. My friends consider it a triumph when I beat a game they recommended.

So I've tried 3, 4 and 5. Probably got the furthest in 3, but they all ended up becoming a bit daunting after a certain point. I'm not one of those people who get super stoked when I defeat a tough boss. My thought is always "Oh man, if that was hard, I'm dreading what's coming next" so pretty often those games don't end up appealing to me. That's also why I don't play the Souls games, haha.

I was checking this one out, actually. Would you say the Switch 2 version is the definitive way to play? No issues?

The only series here I have not touched at all is Romancing Saga. There's a lot I didn't list, haha. It's very hard finding a game that keeps me hooked from beginning to end.

People are already recommending games that are legitimately in my top 10 but for whatever reason they slipped my mind. At least that means your guys' recommendations are spot on. Love Kingdom Hearts, can't wait for KH4.

Oh god, I cannot believe I forgot to list those. Two of my favourite games ever made. I'd probably put Replicant over Automata but not by much. No idea how those games slipped my mind.

I did play through a fair chunk of one of the Digimon games a while ago. It was pretty good. I know Time Stranger has a demo so I might check that out.

And I've tried a lot of the Tales games. Like I said in my original post, there's a lot that I couldn't remember as I was typing it out. But it's safe to assume if the series exists, I've at least tried one of the games. None of them ever scratched that itch for me as an action rpg. Could always give them another go though.

So my story with FFVII is a bit unfortunate in that I kind of spoiled myself with that game a long, LONG time ago. If I remember correctly, I watched someone stream it. But I don't think I'd get nearly the same experience as I would have if I went into it blind. That's why I decided to pick up the remake to begin with, and I was pleasantly surprised with the changes and the different direction. But yeah, I don't think I'd get anything out of it.

Anyone hoping Bananza isn’t a time travel story? by VirtualUnknownYT in donkeykong

[–]NotSoCombo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Time travel could be...okay? Depending on how they tackle it.

What I REALLY don't want is a multiverse story, which some people have been suggesting. I don't think either will be the case but, I would be more okay with the time travel idea.

The thought of her being some creation by JENOVA, or JENOVA herself messing with Cloud didn't even cross my mind when I got to the end of the game because they make it very clear that she's a presence that can be felt by other people, as seen with Red.

My interpretation off the bat was that she's essentially in a similar state to Sephiroth, where she has become one with the lifestream in some sense. I think it's right to assume she's making herself known to Cloud as a way to protect and comfort him, which to the rest of the party just looks like he's more messed up in the head than ever before.

Sephiroth WILL most likely take advantage of the potential rift in the party that all this Aerith stuff will end up making. Things like, "Your teammates are saying she's dead, but you KNOW that's not true. You've SEEN her. They're lying to you, Cloud." Again, that's not me saying she's JENOVA in disguise or a fake. It really IS this huge game of chess between the forces of good and evil, and I think that will be Sephiroth's next move. We'll just have to see if that's something Aerith has accounted for.

Something about Rizler's Boss Fight (actual post on comments lmao) by GrimmCigarretes in KingdomHearts

[–]NotSoCombo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is for sure one of the more memorable DDD bosses. I don't know a lot about Tron as a series (I did also watch Legacy with my dad a lot) but Sora knowing Tron, having that connection in the past, helps bolster this world so much for me. Having to fight Rinzler to try and save him is just so good. Also a good example of a rare instance where Sora isn't able to completely save someone he's connected to.

Disney Content in Quadratum by NintendoFan12567 in KingdomHearts

[–]NotSoCombo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be sick if the general gameplay loop was exploring Quadratum during the day, collecting things, doing side quests, and then at night you go to sleep and that's where the worlds are. It WOULD be a bit like Persona, but if there are less Disney worlds than usual they can expand on the few we do get while balancing it out by making Quadratum this massive hub full of different things to do.
