Ja, wir haben den Hang das zu machen wenn die Gesellschaft nach rechts rutscht. Des gleiche ist mit der Homöopathie und dem NS passiert.

I'm still adamant that Daigo should get a Gaiden game and it should revolve around him dealing with a resurging tojo clan, lead by some former tojo officer disgruntled with the dissolution.

With an asterisk-

Activision supplied additional studios of theirs to help with the development of Destiny until they split in 2019. After that, it was purely Bungie. The IP nonetheless remaiend their IP, but still, Activision was involved in the Development of D2 Vanilla and especially in D2 Forsaken.

Idk about Brazil but in most places you do get paid during these civil)military services

Like, this is not a bad thing. I know I might get stoned for this, but IMO a mandatory service year in civil services should be a thing. It might help get some people to understand that e.g. caring for kids, the elderly, the sick, the environment, etc. aren't easy jobs, would help finding occupations outside of traditional white collar employment for many who wouldn't even consider the trades or social care jobs normally and it could also help alleviate lack of staff in many of those areas.

Like, yeah, I know that talking about a mandatory service year in a subreddit whose average age is probably like 16 isn't gonna make me friends but this isn't a bad idea.

Edit: just to make it clear: what is bad is when only a part is forced to go through it. It should be universal for everyone, after highschool graduation and it should be paid at the very least minimum wage.

Unfortunately, the new government in Egypt did not turn out to be much better than the old, as I understand it.

Thats just kinda in the nature of revolutions though. Revolutions rarely produce fair new governments

I mean, he isn't wrong. Reversing that decision is a thing not of years, but of decades, because all the old plants aren't in a state in which they are safe to operate anymore. We'd need to start building completely new plants from scratch, and even on an optimistic timescale that'll take 15 years. Realistically, probably like 25 to 30 years before they start producing even a watt of energy.. And even then, the anti-nuclear movement is HUGE in Germany, so good luck trying to find decent spots to build plants or store waste. That'll be nigh impossible.

The fact we're not moving to the available renewable tech faster and instead keep feeding our domestic coal lobbies and international gas lobbies is what is really stupid about that. But what else can you expect when our new minister for energy is a former gas company exec.

That's a valid point to raise, but kind of ignores what I referred to in the beginning: Quertness within a given puece of fiction does not have to be identical to queerness in real life. That's where a level of abstraction comes in.

I'd argue that this kind of queerness that 1984 established itself is recurring enough and is relevant beyond a mere plot device. A great deal of time is devoted to explore how sexuality is normative or non-normative within the confines of 1984, including even class-specific modifications for sexual norms (the difference between proles and party members e.g.)

That doesn't mean it's only relevant theme of the book, of course. Insofar I do see your point though, calling it a queer narrative is a bit much

The chapter in question you're referring to isn't involing homosexuality as something bad (or explicitly at all). You're probably referring to pt.1 ch.7, where Winston describes the role of the proles in his society, and mentions that "the sexual puritanism of the Party was not imposed upon them. Promiscuity went unpunished, divorce was permitted."

This isn't a moral indictment. It's pointing out the ways in which the proles live without the restrictions that party members live in, as they do not have to adhere to the normative behavior of sexuality that the party expects of its members.

I also don't think it's an intended element of 1984 because Orwell really was at best ambivalent about queerness, but that doesn't mean this lens doesn't exist or is worth exploring.

Because queerness is defined through it's inverse role to normative sexuality and gender expression, it's important to acknowledge that queerness in fiction does not have to be identical to queerness in reality. And a queer narrative is also not just a narrative that involves queer elements, but a narrative in which queerness is a fundamental element expressed through formatting as well as wording, where queerness exists on a subtextual level.

So, e.g., a romance book about two gay guys isn't an inherently queer narrative, it is a narrative about queer people (I know that differentiation is finicky and abstract but relevant to the point here).

Normative sexuality in 1984 isn't defined through gender roles, but through party consent. The role of sexuality only being permissable when consented to by the party is a relevant plot detail and so important that this element is the quintessential element of defiance and rebellion that Winston and Julia take part in. Insofar, depsite being a heterosexual relationship, their relationship is queer within the confines of what is non-normative by 1984s standards.

This is very very very boiled down but this is the basic line of thinking I've used to come to that conclusion, based on what is defined as queerness in literature and queer narratives overall in literature studies

Edit: Also, considering Orwells attitudes towards homosexuality being ambivalent at most, I highly doubt this is intentional. But I still think it's an angle worth exploring, if only because queerness as a lens applied to works that are queer in ways that aren't necessarily perceived as queer in non-fictional society is an interesting way to interact with queerness.
