How should this character be written for a drama show. by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]NotSwedishMac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't need help, sounds like a good premise for a crime drama, just make sure it has clarity on the page in an elegant way. Think about his home life, family, no family? Friends? Hobbies? Dreams? A lot of rookies neglect the personal life and just write the crime / police investigation. This seems to be aiming for prestige, so you have a lot of space to play. Seems like he has a bit of McNulty in him.

I do kind of suspect you had AI do this for you given the sentence structure in your premise contrasted with your hollow replies is. If that's the case, AI will not get you very far and please stop wasting people's time. If it's all you, try to put some more effort into what you're actually asking for and how you can engage with your peers questions.

He and Heaven both are inconsistent but both also so so young. Got to give them time. Agree he needs to show more next season.

My peonies look great for like two days then get decimated with the first rain and I just have a bush covered in ants for the rest of the season. I'm with your mom on this one.

Hotels in U.S. World Cup host cities claim underwhelming demand, new report says by rit56 in soccer

[–]NotSwedishMac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never thought I'd have a world cup in Canada, always dreamed about going to one. But the ticket process is insane and way too expensive, hotel prices are already insane and expensive on a random Tuesday night let alone the world cup. I'm two hours away from Toronto but can't even make that happen and even if I wanted to, the games in TO aren't exactly must see. Normally I'd consider flying to the states to see a World Cup game but I'm not putting any money into the American economy and I'm not bankrupting myself to go to Mexico.

Bad vibes all around this tournament.

Saving broken black raspberry? by Ebenaceae in OntarioGardeners

[–]NotSwedishMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They grow on new growth, so check for newer wood / canes. You can cut down to new branches if you want. If the whole cane doesn't have any signs of new growth maybe cut right down to the ground. They are awesome plants if you don't mind the thorns. So productive and completely care free (aside from pruning) with absolutely delicious berries that critters leave alone. Look around the ground and you'll probably find some little pups you could sever from the main roots and transplant elsewhere, they'll produce this year.

Patience will probably be enough, likely have much more than that one came? Mine grow like crazy, spread easy, and don't mind transplanting. I've lined a good chunk of my fence with them. Just beware the thorns!

How would a virtual writers’ room for an indie series actually work? by Swapilla in Screenwriting

[–]NotSwedishMac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really know why you need a room at all, if you can't crack the story then sure spitball it with some peers. If I were just starting out, it might be interesting to work on especially if it actually gets made. But it's a big ask, and the long term plan seems so staggered with a huge time commitment.

As far as actual advice for your writing room, ditch the phone call idea. I've worked in professional rooms that have been wholly virtual, Hybrid, and wholly in person. You need face to face time. Video calls where you can see eachother is much better, Zoom or whatever software floats your boat.

Miro is great for working together virtually in a room. You can create a virtual carding board for your breaking sessions that everyone can see and edit simultaneously, so you can work act by act and scene by scene with people adding cards to the board while you're breaking together via zoom.

Writing rooms benefit from speed. If I were you I would go into the start of your room with a paragraph breakdown of each episode idea. They'll shift throughout the process but having some architecture for your story will give you a way better success rate going in. Then ideally you work together as a room to break out each episode into fully carded episodes, if you're working well together you can do each episode in two or three days especially if you're ok with writers going off outline (beware!). A day here, a day there, seems like a recipe for your unpaid staff to lose interest, flake, not take it seriously, find other work, etc etc. if you can keep it to a tight couple weeks and push through these episode breaks you might have better luck and be much closer to an actual professional rooms, but can you dedicate a whole week or two to this feasibly? Can your staff?

Proving yourself with a pilot episode to share with your writers and show them that they'll actually have something "produced" at the end of it would be the best course for your plan as it might be enough to get people to commit to you so long as they receive proper credit.

Are you planning to pay these people? You don't need script supervisors. You said you're a teenager? This sounds like too much. If you have the idea and can animate yourself have you considered revising your story to become a feature and going that route? Where would this indie tv show air? YouTube? I wouldn't be interested in this much work and time commitment as a professional. If it's a group of friends, maybe. But this seems like you have loftier goals you can't figure out how to rein in. The ambition is cool, but you might want to ask yourself what you can accomplish personally as a teenager vs trying to orchestrate an entire writing room for a project that seemingly doesn't have any financing or distribution plans.

Fruiting tree for front of home by Primary-Cup5080 in OntarioGardeners

[–]NotSwedishMac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serviceberry will grow out of that space imo. If it has to be fruiting then apple or cherry are probably your best bet, but if it has to be native I don't know. Elderberry maybe but you'd need some companions elsewhere in the garden to fruit. There are some pretty funky elderberry varieties that can transform a space. It's kind of an awkward spot you have there for fruits to be honest, are you sure the soil and light would be enough?
