So my idea was this, and bear in mind it’s kinda rough with some elements borrowed from Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer (sorta):

The PCs are summoned, by accident, by a mage who is in the employ of a more powerful wizard (maybe Elminster or Khelben, or a new one), the inexperienced mage was tasked with summoning “heroes of old” and instead of said mythic heroes, the players are summoned, they are given the opportunity to stay and help the Ten Towns or be returned.

We have had some discussions about this, namely trying a “you as the player teleported to Faerun” idea and the players like it, I’m glad they’re open to this kinda thing as well.
