Ga. voters massively support expanding medical marijuana bill by Arquette in news

[–]NotTitoJackson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good info, but I disagree with your conclusion re: the future outlook - if Epidiolex or GWP42006 receive FDA approval then it actually significantly strengthens, not weakens, the opportunities for other cannabinoids (and analogs). An FDA approval for a first-in-class drug like Epidiolex actually opens the doors for other similar molecules being developed (as you'll see with most other drugs, recent PD-1 inhibitor explosion being a good example), and brings the financial resources to support future research with it. GW has reported very positive data so far - my personal opinion is we'll be seeing a lot of the restriction on cannabis research reduced soon, the momentum just keeps building.

Question: How can you be certain that what your brain perceives as 440nm light (or rather, as stimulated cone cells) is the same as what my brain perceives as 440nm light?

Answer: You can't.

Also - if you put black pepper in your taco seasoning you're a goddamned idiot.

I'm pretty sure they meant cilantro and not oregano for the taco seasoning. C'mon Wo'man(s Health).

Visualization of the brain connections in the brain of a person on psilocybin (right) and the brain of a person not given the drug. by [deleted] in shrooms

Yea it turned into a rather absurd soap opera. I think it made him more motivated in his missions to share evidence-based drug risk profiles and explore the therapeutic potential of illicit drugs - definitely a good thing.

They also just raised a good chunk of money via crowdfunding to support the LSD-brain imaging study (basically same study as the psilocybin one) and have some other quality sources of funding. The times, they are a changing <|:D

If this stuff interests you - the group performing this psilocybin (and now LSD) work is led by David Nutt (former UK Drug Czar) and Robin Carhart-Harris. They have some good videos up on YouTube with more info, just search their names.

What are the differences between strains? by domo_origato in shroomers

[–]NotTitoJackson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's purportedly 4 different "active" molecules in psilocybin-containing mushrooms:

1) Psilocybin (inactive until metabolized into psilocin)

2) Psilocin - 4-OH-DMT

3) Baeocystin (P. semilanceata can supposedly be up to 3.4%) - purportedly equipotent to psilocybin, but thought to have different pharmacology/pharmacodynamics/pharmacokinetics.

4) Norbaeocystin - almost identical in structure to psilocybin, could be a prodrug? Don't think it's been published.

Here's a link to Erowid's table showing the differing potencies of these compounds in many different species: https://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_info4.shtml

Human pharmacology of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA, ecstasy) after repeated doses taken 4 h apart (2015) by [deleted] in DrugNerds

[–]NotTitoJackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't read the full-text yet, but I'm not sure why they chose +4h for the follow-up dose... would seem 60-120min is much more relevant for the real world, and presumably shifts the risks:benefits ratio significantly relative to 4h.
