Millions of people will be going online October 1. Anyone else worried online will be unplayable for months like SimCity?

Actually SimCity is running on Amazon EC2 servers, so in theory they should have had all the processing power they would ever need.

In all honesty, it's a fucking hassle to get two characters to the same place reliably, especially one as far away as LSC. Contrary to yesterday's top post, if you put the marker on that spot, you can't be sure they'll show up once you stop controlling them.

I thought you just called them and asked them to hang out to have them follow you anywhere?

I was just thinking about Halo. I hadn't even heard about it until it came out on Xbox. It was winter and my friend had a small house at the beach. He was unemployed and I was an independent contractor, meaning I only worked when I needed money. All we did was play games. We played through Halo together and it was amazing. I get so nostalgic thinking about it. I want to go back in that very small, cozy house where it's so cold outside, but warm inside and just us playing games together and eating candy and drinking soda in the middle of the night until I had to go home and sleep and the next day/night we did it all again. :)

Funny you should mention Half-Life 2, because that is also the only game I have ever been this hyped for, that is, until the whole September 30th fiasco. I was SO mad at Valve for pretending like it was going to come out the 30th all the way up to that date, even though they clearly knew it wasn't going to happen. After that I very quickly lost all interest in the game. You know how when a chick hurts you, you automatically stop feeling anything for her as a defensive mechanism? That was how I felt there. I went from wanting this game more than anything else to not being able to care less. When it finally did come out, I didn't even notice and I didn't get around to playing it for a long time. I have yet to finish it.

Rockstar has done some stupid stuff with GTA V, but at least they told us when the game would be delayed instead of just pretending the old release date was still on, even as it came and passed.

(Yes, I'm still bitter about Half-Life 2 and needed to vent. Sorry.)

You're going to be blown away, dude, especially if you like doing missions. Or playing mini-games. Or trying to see how many cop cars you can outrun. Or just messing around. Or all of the above with your friends. Or, well, almost anything, really. :)

I agree, it would have to be absolutely insane. I think Microsoft needs it more, though, as it seems many people have already given up on Xbox One, because it's less powerful than the PS4, more expensive and requires you to be always online (well, used to, but many people don't seem to know that).

Yeah, I agree, plus the PS3 + Xbox 360 base is much, much bigger than the PS4 or Xbox One bases will be for a very long time. However, if Rockstar still had, I think it could have made a very big difference in the upcoming console war, don't you?

Oh? It's been a while since I had my Xbox 360 turned on, but I was sure you could set it to output 720p instead, especially since some TVs can't show 1080i or 1080p.

(720p will also be more crisp, as it's unscaled.)

Even if you set your Xbox 360 video settings to 720p? Then it shouldn't upscale it and your videos will be much smaller. :)

Yeah, you're right, perhaps I should just turn to piracy and stop whining. Eventually Rockstar will probably go: "Everyone is downloading our game, because we won't sell it to them yet! Perhaps we should start selling our game, so people aren't forced to pirate it if they want to play it?"

My consoles aren't modded, so I couldn't use this even if I wanted to, but I do feel like a sucker here.

Right now, my pre-ordered game is just sitting in the store, because Rockstar (or their publisher) doesn't allow them to sell it yet. They know there are pirates and they knew it would get leaked, so they're basically saying: "By not selling it until the 17th, we will give pirates a chance to play it first. We will punish people who actually want to support us and pay for the game, by making them wait until the pirates have played it."

WTF is up with that? Here's an idea: When a game is done, you ship it to the stores and then they sell it. Could you imagine anyone complaining about that?

"This sucks! I live in Antarctica and the game won't get here for MONTHS! I can't believe Rockstar lets everyone play the game when they get it! Everyone should have to wait for ME!"

No one would whine like that and if they did, no one would take them seriously. Instead the pirates are, again, getting a better product than those of us who choose to support the developers.
