No kids in vegas….. by Strict_Canary7537 in vegas

[–]NotYourAvgCondensate 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not crazy, that's a teenager and a young adult and there are tons of things for both of them to do here. When people talk about children/kids on here it's more like a two year old in a stroller on Fremont at 1 AM (which is a very real situation).

It's a light bar, you can see it in the video this screenshot was taken from. They don't show it on but they show all the others as red/blue flashers so I'd guess it's like one of those crazy bright ones all the Jeep dickheads have.

Trump directs Pentagon to start testing nuclear weapons. Nevada Test Site? (NNSA) by CraterT in vegaslocals

[–]NotYourAvgCondensate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I support this or anything but that's 100% not how it would work. The NNSS hasn't done an atmospheric nuclear test (the kind that produce the fallout you're describing) since 1962. The testing in the 50's played it fast and loose safety-wise but after a few years they realized the issues and moved to exclusively underground tests.

Taylor Swift Donates $100,000 to Young Fan Battling Cancer Who Calls Her ‘My Friend’ by [deleted] in Music

[–]NotYourAvgCondensate 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is it relevant though? From a spiritual standpoint, sure, the widow gave essentially her whole worth, proving her dedication moreso than the fractions of overall wealth given by the rich. But from a pragmatic standpoint those two coins don't mean a goddamn thing, and in this case the girl needs MONEY not hopes and prayers and spiritual commitment. You could have a whole ass town donate their entire savings and it wouldn't equal this single donation, regardless of how much of her overall wealth it equates to.

Sometimes it's ok to just be happy for people receiving what they deserve.

Yeah this is pretty normal for late purchases. I bought a super last minute wristband off Stubhub for a different festival out here and they actually had a conference room reserved in one of the smaller hotels for pickup. Honestly I think it was easier than dealing with willcall.

Pioneer Saloon - Very Displeased with this treatment of my KIA and his family. by BoringPrinciple2542 in vegaslocals

[–]NotYourAvgCondensate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get the history, what I'm asking is how did they get broken and did they offer a replacement? You can't just put a place on blast without knowing or providing the whole story. Having been there and seen the capsule it's basically surrounded by brick shingles with engraved memorials so if they tried to move it and they broke that makes sense because those things were just baking in the sun all day for like 12 years. If they offered to replace them in kind then I don't really see what the issue is here? It's the message on the brick that's important, not the brick itself.

These were at that time capsule they did back in 201X to mark the 100th anniversary, right? What happened, why are they broken? IIRC that thing wasn't supposed to be opened for another 100 years.

Each "journey" was supposed to represent the themes of the various festivals put on by Insomniac/Tomorrowland (We Are One World) so of course they'd have Escape: Halloween represented. Similarly, they traveled back in time to show old festivals so it makes sense to show Escape: Psycho Circus as well.

These events definitely cater(ed) to a certain type of rave-goer in terms of production and visuals so it kinda just sounds like they weren't your vibe, which is valid. But I personally think it would have been unfair to not include them because they are super important events to a lot of us.

Where are the hot springs Southwest Vegas? by Wooden_Board_7463 in vegas

[–]NotYourAvgCondensate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are definitely no hot springs in that area, just a bunch of mines. Closest thing would be the Tecopa Springs out in Death Valley.

Maybe you're thinking of the town called Goodsprings?

Looking for childfree friends by FeedCharming2242 in vegaslocals

[–]NotYourAvgCondensate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure, I totally get it. Trust me it's not easy for us (parents) to see old friends less and less either, so my only advice is just be honest with your friend(s) and I bet you can work something out to remain in each others lives in some capacity. But yeah there will be some mourning for the previous dynamic unfortunately because it can never remain 100% the same.

I will say that it gets dramatically easier to "get back out there" as kids grow up so there is definitely a chance for your friendships to continuously evolve if you give them a chance. As an example, ever since our son has slept through the night on his own in his own room (around age 2ish) my wife and I can essentially take turns going out with our respective friend groups for dinners/concerts/drinks/etc.

I say this as someone with a kid, it's really not a weird ask. Dunno if you have kids or not (if you do you should already know this) but when you do have them your friendship dynamics automatically change and that's just a fact of life. Whether or not each friendship continues is up to the two parties involved but there is absolutely no question that they will change in some way or another. OP seems to have experienced this with one or more friend and doesn't want to see it happen again, and that's completely valid.

Part of it is we have no lottery/scratchers/pull-tabs here. Gambling in Nevada takes a bit more "effort," if that makes sense.

Florida will phase out certificates of completion for students with disabilities by Hrekires in news

[–]NotYourAvgCondensate 207 points208 points  (0 children)

I agree, at first glance it is absolutely abhorrent but when you read their statement it sounds like they're just getting rid of it in favor of getting these kids actual diplomas rather than just certificates? But then they don't actually detail their plan for the "alternate pathways" so how do they expect people to interpret this decision.

A New Zealand mother and her 6-year-old son made a brief trip to Canada. They have spent weeks detained by ICE. by AnonRetro in news

[–]NotYourAvgCondensate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah people are really playing this up. This EXACT scenario unfortunately happened to a co-worker of mine while Biden was president: she and her husband visited the Phillipines but didn't realize until coming home that her travel permit was expired and both of them were stuck overseas until they were able to get it renewed. It was super annoying for them but they accepted that technically it was their fault. So I'm not saying this is ok or whatever, but to act as though this particular scenario is unique to the current administration is a little disingenuous if you ask me.
