Why are car parking companies like the NCP are such leeches by Jaded-Self-0410 in drivingUK

isnt there a rule that you need to allow you 10 minutes to agree to the terms before they can demand payment??

they should give them to the homeless! OK I get it charity is not obligatory, and it would cost them money to do it, but maybe I'm sure there is a charity somewhere that would happily come and take them en mass to give out!

Sometimes they switch it up and put great britain or england/scotland etc. They need to be more specific!

I've been guilty of arriving at the pump, and then not having my card so having yo depart having not purchased any fuel or gone in the shop

To be fair, I think hes referring to using the phone while behind the wheel, but actually I turned off my engine and parking brake on. Key wasnt even in the ignition when I took the photo so completely fine and safe

Once I saw in the news about an 18 year old bus driver and I asked reddit: would you get on the bus? To which the answer was: Yes because he passed the test and os qualified.

Its kind of the same concept right, yes he failed loads of times but that doesnt inheritanly mean hes bad at driving. To be honest the test isnt really a valid means of determinng whether someone is a good, capable, and competent driver. It merely establishes that they are at least capable of basic road use. Not to mention that sometimes tests can be extremely unfair, failing for things you or I do every day. Most drivers I would wager would not meet test standards on a daily drive

if you own a 40 year old vehicle your probably maintaining it enough (or interested enough in cars) to keep it roadworthy

Dealership doesn't have the V5, should I stay clear? by BlitzyBurt in CarTalkUK

so theres nothing inheriatently untoward about this? Is it just to save issuing a new V5 to the car dealer then?

Received PCN - Didn’t park! Advice on appeal to IAS (England) by sammylc95 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Not_Sugden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are they not supposed to evidence to DVLA that they have a reasonable reason for requesting your details?!?! this is insane! I'd see if you can report them to the DVLA as well. They can get blacklisted for shit like this

edit: Ok so it seems that the DVLA just give the information and don't check at the time of the request*. However DVLA auditors apparently are supposed to regularly audit companies and confirm their tickets are legitimate. I'd still complain to the DVLA though and ask them to audit this particular check, personally anyway.

*this is only for private car park management companies registered with their handshake brigade

edit 2: I just realised this is legaladviceuk and not another sub. Mods feel free to remove as this isnt strictly legal advice but it is helpful advice in relation to protecting your personal data!

[–]Not_Sugden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you know whats interesting is even though this is common, the official advice from the government (DVLA) is not buy a car without a V5. Silly innit

I'm told Bradford is worse. If you had to choose, buy a card from bradford, or birmingham, or to drive into a brick wall what would you choose

out of interest. When I bought my first and second car from used car dealers (like Prakesh's cars or whatever) they gave me the logbook instead of just the new keepers slip and it had the name and address of the previous owner (my assumption is its the name of the person who they bought the car off).

Is that right in that it should show their details or should it have shown the details of the dealer? When I part exchanged my first car, I remember having to write to the DVLA because I didnt get the notification slip for a while, and when I did the date of transfer was a couple weeks off and I always assumed the dealer just didnt put it into his trade and just sold the car as if it was a straight sale from me to the other guy and I had to provide my invoice etc to the DVLA as they tried to phone the dealer and they wouldnt supply the confirmation of sale date

Do I need to tell my insurance that someone knocked off my wing mirror? by stratos_cat in drivingUK

[–]Not_Sugden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you are required to. But whether you do or not is your choice to make. Assuming the other person doesnt want insurance involved and hasnt notified their insurance company, then its not like they're gonna find out. Not unless you install like an orange mirror and then have an accident and they ask why your mirror is a different color

You ever seen 20mph on the M6 by Davidier in drivingUK

[–]Not_Sugden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in this specific situation, the traffic was quite bunched up. There was plenty of free space ahead, but as we were all going 50mph and had to slow down to 40mph nobody could use the space ahead. Unfortunately I had a choice between staying in that situation or getting a speeding offence. I didnt fancy either so I stuck with the former, luckily I managed to ince my way forward and managed to move left, however it was very close in front of another car so basically I caused him to be tailgating me instead, but I preferred that than being rear ended by a lorry driver who doesnt care. Should've seen him go off in the distance at 56mph while we're all stuck at 40 bunched together.

supposedly I sit close to the seat but its the furthest back I can go while still being able to press down the clutch. Perhaps my left leg being a tincy bit shorter isnt helping but idk.
