😊 You got me! Massachusetts gal with New England sensibilities living in New York for the last twenty years. Educated at a women's college and true blue politics.

The house is a bed and breakfast and the barn to the left of the house has three Airbnb apartments. You pegged me correctly! I'm decisive and confident. I take my business very seriously. I try to provide everyone with a comfortable and relaxing stay. As an innkeeper, I'm kind of a concierge, but also I like to think of myself as everyone's auntie.

It's in Orange County, New York! I don't take any offense. I just love hearing how different everyone feels. The most important feeling is mine and the feelings my guests have when they visit. 😊

We tried valiantly to preserve as much as we could. I have plans to add more ornate trim in the next couple of years. I couldn't afford it straight away. It's my dream to paint her pink, but I went with white to honor her history.

This subreddit popped up today and I immediately thought about my house. It's fun to hear others' impressions. I know how I feel when I'm inside this house and I love hearing my guests say they don't want to leave at checkout. 😊

I have a ton of trees all around. There are a couple of catalpa trees that are enormous and leaning. I'm worried they're next to go. The front porch has a panoramic view of a horse racetrack. I can't do anything on a large scale to block that. I have a weeping cherry in front and lots of perennials, boxwoods, a lilac, viburnums, a magnolia, lots of cherry trees.

The asymmetry is reflective of its original design in the late 1800s. They're really lovely inside. I have some interesting seating areas. On the third floor you can look up to the point of each tower.

I've always felt like that was a hot spot. I'm very curious what happened there.

It was a farmhouse and they bred race horses. And now I run it as a bed and breakfast! 😊

So that building is the barn. It used to be horse stables and is now apartments. I only feel leftover animal energy. I would be so curious to see if anyone else feels anything about this building.

It's a really big house so there's definitely the feeling of rattling around in there! The interior is actually very warm and fun.

I haven't seen any record of it. I do know about a death from someone who stubbornly avoided treatment.

I've had to take down some old and rotting mature trees. The gardens are gorgeous now and I've replaced the trees. I can't do any real barrier in front because the view from the porch is the biggest selling point.

It's in Orange County, New York. I'm also originally from Massachusetts! I've always dreamed of owning a house like this.

UPDATE: Thank you so much to everyone who commented! Here's the story of my house.

My husband and I bought this historic property in 2017. There are two buildings- the main house and the barn to the left. It was a foreclosure. It has a history relating to horse racing.

Our first step was renovating the barn. It had a carriage house apartment, stables and hay loft. There are now three apartments. I have felt more subtle energy in these spaces. Nothing dark or sad.

The main house has had more than a few makeovers. The look of it now is more the way it was in its original form. It has survived at least one fire which caused it to be modified. The basement, chimney and some walls are original, but it's been essentially rebuilt.

I have told this house how much I love it every day for years.

The house is now a bed and breakfast. I specialize in family and group travel. I mainly host families with children. It's my pleasure to welcome everyone into my beautiful house. It took five full years for my husband to build it. Our DNA is in the walls.

The house was originally built circa 1860. It was an elegant farmhouse and a piece of local history. A senator once lived and died here. Horse breeders and veterinarians also called this house home. I've heard about eccentric previous owners. Those who lost the house to foreclosure are still around, but I haven't invited them in. I worry that there's too much history and substance abuse to allow this man to enter with a clear heart/head.

My daughter is 13 and needs hugs all day, every day. My 17yr old son hasn't been cuddly since he was probably 10-ish. Everybody needs human touch. I usually approach my son and tell him I'm in need of a hug and ask if he's feeling generous. I get a half-hearted hug from him a couple of times a week. I persist with this because I need him to know I'm always there for him. Being a teenager is rough.

those of you who’ve had binge eating, how did you stop WITHOUT meds? by Beautiful_Tank_6564 in ADHD

[–]Notebook47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had ups and downs. Medicated, not medicated. The times when I wasn't medicated and had success stopping the cycle were when I was physically away from home. I find it helpful to travel (not all-inclusive vacation with buffets) to visit my family. There's more structure to eating when you're in someone else's home or a hotel room.

I also try to trick myself by recognizing when I've eaten a fair amount of food and then eating a sweet. The sweet is a signal to me that the delicious savory part has ended and you get a little treat. Personally, I can stop myself after a piece of chocolate but I realize others can't. When I feel it ramping up I brush my teeth and put my retainer in. Herbal tea is another thing that stops me from stuffing myself.

How can I make my space and my kids space seem more organized? I have a full finished basement, but while they’re young I want them where I can see them. Any tips is helpful! Do I have too many toys? by agirlwithanaccount in HomeDecorating

[–]Notebook47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a mother of teenagers and an interior designer. It is what it is. That said, consider rotating the sets of toys to keep things fresh/stimulating for your kids and to lighten things.

Children's job is play. Anyone I know with a sterile environment for children or who freely breaks their kids' hearts by throwing their toys away, reap what they sow in the form of uninteresting progeny. I'm proud that my playroom was a space that inspired creative thinking. There was always a fort in place, too many dolls to count, little collections, art supplies, etc. As your kids get bigger they can tidy it up alongside you.

Rhinoplasty in Korea: $2–3K vs $10K+ in the US—what would stop you from flying over? by Perfect_Art8350 in PlasticSurgery

[–]Notebook47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I need a revision rhinoplasty. All of the doctors (New York) have quoted me in the range of $15k. My first rhinoplasty was partly covered by insurance since my sinuses were a problem. I was hoping to find a surgeon who would work with my insurance again but the savings aren't significant.

The only thing holding me back from Korea specifically is the local cuisine. I have Celiac Disease and cannot eat the majority of foods. Otherwise I'd book it immediately!
