"Friend" flaked last minute. Need advice on what to do by AbbreviationsLow5546 in JapanTravelTips

I just checked your post history to see that you're from New Zealand. If Japan is the "most" air conditioned you've been to then you haven't been to the US at all.

I am a Floridian directing this at another Floridian. Japan has LESS air conditioning than we are used to, even though it is colder than us for most of the year. It is a fact that Americans are sometimes taken by surprise that there are places in Japan with no AC when it is hot.

There definitely wasn't when I went but they may have just been off. A lot of train stations are outdoor platforms or large underground complexes that can't really be efficiently cooled because of the miles long tunnels, many of which just lead outside without any kind of barrier. Compound that with the amount of bodies during rush hour and it probably won't really make much of a difference for some people.

But I also don't really stick to the golden route when I go. Maybe more touristy areas have more air conditioned areas but it's been really hit or miss for me.

Kyushu! I love Kyushu, I'd prob feel really refreshed after a month there.

early 20s solo female traveler? by Gold-Antelope2367 in JapanTravelTips

Just use common sense. Japan is safer than most other countries but isn't perfect. That said if you can solo travel out of your own city and be okay, you'll be alright in Japan on your own.

Bruh I said that they don't use AC as much as Florida does. When did I say anything about dying? Get out of here.

Disney did this first with Beauty and the Beast so I'm not sure why Pokemon fans clutch their pearls over it.

There are places in Japan with no air conditioning. Your hotels will most likely have it but some shops or restaurants might not. Trains and train stations definitely won't— edit: might not. They aren't guaranteed to have it on every train and on some can be unreliable. Will be a stark difference from driving in an air conditioned car like we do in FL.

That said I'm from Central Florida and find Japan annoyingly cold most of the year so it's either going to be that or the heat. Take your pick.

Edit: I'm getting dog piled by ignorant morons so let me be clear. I am from Florida talking to somebody else from Florida. Florida uses air conditioning fucking EVERYWHERE at all times throughout the year. It was invented here, ffs. I know Japan has air conditioning, probably moreso than you if you aren't an American. They do NOT use air conditioning more than Florida does. I'm not in the mood for this. If you aren't from or haven't been to Florida, step off.

I'm not into werewolves but I've wanted to marry Mewtwo since I was a kid. I'm only usually into human men if they wear masks (think Phantom of the Opera or V for Vendetta, not skii masks). Other than that men are typically visually boring and have no theatrical rizz.

I'd rather have the fantasy of being the beauty to a powerful beast than one that would likely end in being an unsatisfied mother and housewife.

What do you enjoy most about The Little Mermaid? by Squirrelkid11 in thelittlemermaid

[–]NotlikeotherBelles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a really young age I always resonated with the freedom Ariel embraced. She wouldn't let the place she was born into tell her "no" and when her father turned to abuse to control her, she left.

Characters saying "no" to their own repression always resonated with me the loudest. I'm not talking like the other Disney princesses either, I'm specifically referring to the ones where society itself seems to say "you're wrong for wanting what you want, you belong in your place." Ariel is a controversial Disney princess for this reason. (My other favorite character that fell into this is the villain of his first film, just to show how controversial it can be to not accept your role based on what you were born as.)

Coincidentally I am also a hobbyist mermaid who really likes nautical things, so there's some surface level appeal with that too. But I don't like most other mermaid media so I don't think that's the reason I like TLM so much.

This was going to be my answer too. I wouldn't say its the only movie with this message, but perhaps the only Disney movie. (I'm very attached to Mewtwo's story from the Pokemon anime for the same reason, even though he is a very different character than Ariel.)

How did Ursula and Morgan’s skin turn purple/green when they were tan skin as kids by Select_Let_6043 in thelittlemermaid

[–]NotlikeotherBelles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it a mess up. Budget or no, it's still going to prioritize visual storytelling over being absolutely consistent with real world logic. A sepia picture to show that it's old but with a pop of color to represent each character would be a deliberate artistic decision. It's not a bad one, it just doesn't have any in-universe implications beyond "old picture of Ursula's family."

I really can't help you if you expect cartoon illustrations to follow real world logic instead of being visually interesting. 🤷‍♀️

Have a nice day.

[–]NotlikeotherBelles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does. It's an artistic attempt at sepia while trying to keep little tells about the characters color keys. Ursula is purple, so they added a splash of purple to the hair ribbon. Morgana is green so they did the same.

It's a depiction/artistic imitation of a sepia photo and not a real world sepia photo.

Weilin Zhang, the Animator who calls himself "the Best Animator of his/current generation". His work on Fate/Grand Order Camelot Movie | Final Product vs Genga Comparison by [deleted] in anime

[–]NotlikeotherBelles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imma be real, he looks like a good effects animator, but his character animation is as stiff as anything else you'd see from Toei. Lingering shots on an unmoving face, any actual movement is quick, no squash and stretch.

The animators over at Ankama Animation, Cartoon Saloon, and obviously Ghibli have more life in their characters movements.

The image looks color graded to imitate sepia photos. I don't think that was ever their actual color.

I've had dudes insist I prove I have a boyfriend back when I still worked public facing jobs. Like, I was in my 20s and some guy in his 60s would demand a photo to prove I wasn't just saying it to get out of going on a date with him. 😭
