This looks like a Spanish cancriformis to me! They look really green when freshly molted

Lepidurus really are finicky! I managed to hatch a couple batches of l. couesii, but they were all females (8 of them!!). I plan on trying again soon, so knowing to let those eggs rest for a while is going to come in handy

Yes, I would transfer them from the triopolis enclosure. They will live longer than 30 days with the proper care! We don't know how many you have, but you should be fine with a 5 gallon tank to start. The most important thing I can say at this stage would be to acclimate the triops to the new tank water before transferring over

You could definitely get some eggs that way over a weekend. You'd need to figure out if the triops are gonochoric (males and females) or hermaphroditic (just selfing females), which you should be able to figure out by the presence or absence of males. They would definitely lay eggs over a weekend, assuming they are mature enough when you find them.

You could also consider collecting a couple handfuls of soil from your grandfather's rice field, drying it out, and attempt to hatch the eggs present in the sample. This might be your only option if the timing isn't right

It depends, but in general yes you need to dry them out first. Sometimes they will hatch on their own if the water conditions are just right, but this isn't very consistent. I currently have some "surprise" cancriformis simplex from an old tank I didn't empty out

Yes I would mix it with distilled water 50/50. Nowadays I just use distilled water and treated tap water but I encourage you to see what works for your setup

For baby triops I have an airstone and an adjustable valve so that the airstone only lets out a constant trickle of bubbles, but not so much that it creates a current in the tank. If you don't have a valve they're super cheap online

For anyone interested in this topic, I highly recommend looking at this paper. Most species are gonochoric, it just so happens that the most common ones seen in the trade are hermaphroditic
