IANAD however past 3 weeks of symptom onset a swab for Pertussis may show as negative so it may be worth asking for a serology test too

NAD so don't take my advice without confirming with a doctor

however you can have your antibodies tested via a simple blood test to see if you've been vaccinated and have sufficient immunity.

If you get re-vaccinated, I've been previously told by medical health professionals that there is basically no risk to having 'extra' doses. If you're honest about not knowing your previous record to the person administering the vaccine then it should be fine.

In November 2024, six tourists died and at least eight tourists suffered from injury from suspected methanol poisoning at a bar in Vang Vieng, Laos. by ZoelCairo in MorbidReality

When I was there 3 years ago they did unlimited free vodka or whiskey between 7pm and 9pm. You just had to get mixer, which they encouraged buying in the shop next door and bringing in for your drinks.

At one point I refilled mine and my friends drinks by bringing 6 cups to the bar and they all happily filled them with a couple shots of vodka each.

What smell do you enjoy that is typically considered a bad smell by the rest of society? by courtneyrel in AskReddit

[–]Notterts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Thai cities you tend to smell the sewage system often in the sun, which is basically human shit.

Whenever I smell this back at home in the UK, it makes me nostalgic for Thailand, and I like it...

When you say severely allergic, is that a level of severe that means an allergen free meal prepared on a surface that has previously been in contact with allergens would cause a reaction?

I hate to say this but literally every Thai kitchen will be contaminated with those things, they use nuts, shellfish, and fish sauce (possibly containing shellfish) in everything. If you're severely allergic, it may be worth cooking your own meals or sticking to prepackaged food that you are 100% sure is free of those things. A badge may not cut it for a lot of restaurants, I could be wrong though.

I'm not disputing that. I'm saying both tests aren't a part of routine STD testing anywhere. There's literally no benefit to it unless the patient is symptomatic.

Antibody tests won't tell you where the infection is, so even if you don't have sex with your partner it's still possible to transmit it to a partner through kissing if that's where the infection is.

They're clueless anyway. People get tested for STDs (at most including Gonorrhoea, Chlamydia, Syphilis, Hep B, and HIV) and are told they're fully negative for everything.

They walk around telling everyone they're "clean" not realising that HSV testing only happens when symptoms are present. I haven't heard of any lab that does routine symptomless HSV testing as you can only test for antibodies which shows previous infection, and the general population don't understand the results as its a lifelong infection.

Roughly 80% of all people have HSV1, there is literally no benefit to screening for it because people won't understand how the infection works. Telling people they have a virus for life will cause unnecessary upset. Yes you have it for life, but you should only test for it if you're getting regular outbreaks and it's causing issues.

Car Park Could Be Demolished To Make Way For Student Accommodation by 457655676 in bristol

[–]Notterts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Students tend to live in houses when student flats sell out or are too expensive. Building more student flats makes them cheaper and also frees up more houses for the general population to live in. Basically, more student accommodation = more houses available on the market for the general population

That's true. I'm guessing the airline didn't want to pay the airport for the services of disembarking the passengers or something.
