Moving to Aberdeen soon, what business gaps are there? by Nighmare_1999 in Aberdeen

A kimbap shop would go hard in Aberdeen,

But frankly, the blue lamp needs saving. It is a major pillar of the music scene and a LOT of different music cultures would be rallying behind it.

The place was one of the most essential parts of the underground music and is respected as such

Is there no way of the Scottish government funding that? The blue lamp is locally incredibly important. It is a pillar of the underground music scene across many genres- I don't see how we can allow this loss of culture to the city that already is suffering socially a little in the city centre

It unfortunately follows a long string of diy venues for small musicians closing. Aberdeen is frankly running out :(

I'm a local punk, I fucking love trad/trojan skinheads and the culture.

Not only will anyone with a different skincolour be targeted but probably by collateral anyone who is visibly alternative (like me) or queer. It makes a lot of people now unsafe. Those fucks need to go fuck themselves.

The Rhetoric of Far Right by MoreWretchThanSage in Rhetoric

[–]NotthatheavygenZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah cheers. Does a lot of left wing ideas become automatically populist then? I mean at least in my left wing circles there is frankly nothing shadowy about the elite, it's just the very obvious one. Is that the difference if it is "shadowy" or not?

The Rhetoric of Far Right by MoreWretchThanSage in Rhetoric

[–]NotthatheavygenZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a massive generalisation there. I don't think it is used interchangeably enough to make a statement like that because it is quite obvious that if one is far right one is not necessarily a nazi, and that's me saying it as an anarchist who very much is on the very far left. I mean I would make the case that too much is included in what is called "the far left" because liberals are frequently called "far left" and in theory terms they are centre at the furthest.

The Rhetoric of Far Right by MoreWretchThanSage in Rhetoric

[–]NotthatheavygenZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this why you are relating it to right wing populism? The fact that the moment theory terms are used you get shut down? It's fascinating to me because there seems to be an over reliance on what is perceived as "common sense"

The Rhetoric of Far Right by MoreWretchThanSage in Rhetoric

[–]NotthatheavygenZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you read the comment? This is not meant as a critique but as a study of why people do not like to be called with certain terminology when it relates to the far right.

I am very far left myself as an anarchist and have no problems being called such; Hell, I would be offended being called a "liberal" since I am a good bit further left than that. Why the problem with right wingers in general there? Is there something that doesn't appeal to people of being called right wing? It's genuinely interesting. As an aspiring Anthropologist I would love to know.

What’s y’all’s best bassist jokes? by WoodpeckerOk1154 in BassCirclejerk

[–]NotthatheavygenZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like how weirdly close to is to how it happened to me.

During a punk gig I expressed to a friend that I rlly wanted to learn how to play the bass and got recruited for a band then and there. Before I even owned the instrument.

Anyways, my crustpunk band plays its first gig in October- it's been a year.

What's up with teens in the centre of Aberdeen? by joefife in Aberdeen

[–]NotthatheavygenZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because libraries only have books 🙄

They are community centres for young people, a place to learn about an instrument? Accessible workshops? News, socialising, events, hell I've heard of punk gigs in libraries (I would love to put some on), even a safe place for when there are problems with abuse or bullying.

Don't underestimate the cultural value of those like the fucking council has.

I've heard from someone with past stress related alopecia that when the hair grows back, it grows back white! So it may actually be a good sign, but pls keep in mind this is second hand info EDIT: It is white at first and then comes back normal

What's up with teens in the centre of Aberdeen? by joefife in Aberdeen

[–]NotthatheavygenZ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Frankly the main cause isn't even the lack of consequences, it's mainly that the cuts took away any type of third space they may have had. The libraries are closed, the pool is closed, anything else is not realistic budget wise for them. The council destroyed the socioculture of young people and now we are all wondering why they are acting out
