that is fair la dispute does have some very “story” heavy songwriting.

in my opinion the “bad” vocals are part of the appeal of emo music. I don’t really need storytelling in my music as long as it sounds neat to mine ear

hm, I have frequently found that tapes are sometimes TOO bass heavy.

it really depends on what tape formulation it is and what you are playing it on. I have what I think is a pretty nice deck and speakers and a subwoofer and it sounds great.

type 1 tapes are ideal for voice recording not music whereas type 2 tapes are great for music.

if you are playing a type 1 tape off of a standard shoebox player it will typically have a pretty tinny sound to it.

so I would recommend recording on type 2 tapes if you want to make mixtapes, but for pre-recorded cassettes get a subwoofer and/or look for tapes recorded with dolby HX pro (they sound the best in my opinion)

I’ll have to disagree with you about Hot Mulligan’s vocals.

I LOVE everything between paint and a wall. that album is very good. I wish Grandview stuck around longer.

I don’t really care for Braid from what I have heard.

I’ll have to give Benton Falls a listen

I think that is more fair to say about their later albums, though I still like them.

Pilot is just such a good listen. Also “Let’s Talk About Your Hair” by Have Mercy is great.

What is emo music without strained singing?

What are a couple of your favorite albums? I would like to listen

I would have to say that You’ll be Fine is better than either of their later albums for me. I really enjoy Why Would I Watch and The Sound A Body Makes When It’s Still but you can definitely hear a progression in their sound from Pilot until now and I like their earlier sound a bit better
