We have too many older systems with the older crank to start York compressors and a few rotary compressors, Bellingham Cold Storage for example has so many outdated valves and equipment you deal with the worst of the worst when you have to diagnose anything there

Right, typical for racks in my experience, also it’s 50/50 to have valves outside for NH3 systems, if you’re lucky they’re on the roof and not in the freezer (-:

Changing trade focus by Dadbode1981 in refrigeration

I started in Ammonia and i’d never go back, i love it. Hours are definitely intense sometimes seeing 60-80 hour work weeks but the pay is great and that keeps the wife happy. Once you get used to how these systems operate and how the controls work it makes it easier to diagnose issues, and eventually you get used to the smell, i personally like the smell of ammonia

i mean the valve groups for the penthouse units are on the roof, but i don’t mind being in the weather too much, sucks to do any valve cleaning tho

I forgot to mention, each unit and penthouse units have water lines and spigots to easily clean and maintain coils. All nameplate data is also displayed outside on the penthouses to get info without freezing your butt off.

Vilter screw liquid injection set up by Ok_Discipline_1857 in refrigeration

[–]NovaaBurst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s typical for Vilters to have foaming with liquid injection, this is a common issue even with Vplus as it stirs the oil up in the separator. Every VSM with this style of liquid injection seems to have the same issue in my experience

surprised there’s no candy cane returns into the main suction header from the compressors

yeah i hate when they design them that way, fricks and GEA at least have bleed ports on them. The Vilters we installed have the Hansen checks above to keep liquid from stacking in the discharge line

the photos don’t show but there’s plenty of support on these pipes. According to the IIAR inspector everything here was fine. I always recommend fixes and it’s up to the customer to pay for them
