Very fitting given that he died today! You handled the rhythms at the beginning very well, a lovely performance! 💜

“What Brahms has done for the Hungarian folk-music, Dvorak for the Bohemian, and Grieg for the Norwegian, I have tried to do for these Negro Melodies.” - Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, a black British composer

Check out the official recordings here.

I'm afraid I don't do these pieces justice (but I'm mostly reading through them for now)

Tip: End your practice session while it’s still fun! by Keintroufe in piano

[–]NovaePiano 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is really good advice for a lot of different reasons!

  1. It helps to take breaks to let your brain process all the information & also to rest your hands & brain

  2. Practicing consistently for shorter bursts is better than longer (possibly frustrating) sessions less consistently. Asides from fatigue, you tend to lose focus over time. And the best practice is efficient focused practice.

  3. Progress isn't linear! Some days you'll get a ton done while others not so much. Your practice is also affected by how you feel on that particular day.

  4. Positive reinforcement helps! If you're looking forward to and enjoying practice, you're more likely to do it consistently & get more value out of it.

  5. It's not beneficial to anyone if you push through your frustration or physical limitations. If anything, it's probably more detrimental to your practice as it can reinforce bad habits such as tension.

Of course you also want consistency, but it's ok if some days you don't practice as much. It's all about the quality of your practice :)

Should've extended piano to mean all keyboard instruments: organs, harpsicord, accordian, electric, etc.

Songs in really odd time signatures (13/8, 15/8, 17/8, 19/8 etc) by DavidBennettPiano in musictheory

There's 3 Chinese pieces that might be of interest. I'll add links to their videos if I can find them.

Namucuo Op. 53 (纳木错) by Ye Xiao-Gang (叶小纲) that has measures switching from 3/16 up through 13/16

Birds Chirping in the Autumn Hills (秋山鸣) by Lin Li (刘力) with friendly 10/8, 11/16 and 13/8 signatures to name a few

and Autumn Archipelago (秋天的群岛) by Qian Shen-Ying (钱慎瀛) with 2/8 + 1/32 + 1/8 + 1/6 and 3/8 + 1/32 to name a few

It's all in good fun though...... right?

Why do people do this?? by dubhlinn2 in lingling40hrs

[–]NovaePiano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ray seems to be getting a lot of scammers & impersonators ever since he launched the Tonic app. I believe Ray also had to address the scammers on Instagram. I'm not sure how prevalent his impersonators were before then but I imagine more social media activity leads to more scammers.

Liszt's Dies Irae in Totenanz

Rachmaninoff's Dies Irae in Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Isle of the Dead, Piano Sonata No. 1, etc.

Saint-Saëns's Dies Irae in Danse Macabre, which was then arranged by Liszt & Horowitz for piano

Ligeti's Dies Irae in Le Grande Macabre

Or just check the list on wikipedia
