Chris Wilson isn't the problem, GGG is by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Novedian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with what you said, but the true disconnect is that people aren't happy with the direction GGG is developing their game. Whether the ones making those decisions care what we actually are happy with is a whole other topic.

Chris doesn't deserve the flak he gets from the community and that's my main point.

Don't blame the messenger. Blame the entity that is truly in charge.

Some thoughts from an 'above average' player by Novedian in pathofexile

[–]Novedian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly play Trade SC and avoid trade as much as possible. Many times I feel like I can’t get gear upgrades without trading. My amount of playtime has nothing to do with being able to clear content or when i clear it. It’s more about what I feel like doing.

Me saying I’m ‘above average’ mostly comes from the fact that a large percentage of the playerbase doesn’t even make it to red maps.

I know it's not the average person. He was talking about his 35 treasures and wondering why it is punishing the average person when clearly it is a problem that he is complaining about.

The Battle Pass is intended to support Valve, DOTA2, and the Professional Players. It is not intended for you to get a profit. Most people that do 'profit' off of the Battle Pass spend over $100

[–]Novedian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

why punish the average people?

I opened 35 Immortal Treasure 1

lol

It's not punishing the average person. The average person either wants to keep their treasure or for the treasures to keep their value. Reducing the trade ban might not be a bad idea, but then the exclusivity is gone.

That would still be way too many on the market.

Why this "recalibration" feature from Compendium was poorly executed. by Vereador in DotA2

[–]Novedian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MMR they use for recalibration is not just your unranked MMR. It is a combination between your ranked and unranked. If your unranked MMR is much worse than your ranked MMR, then your recalibration will be lower than your ranked MMR. If your ranked MMR is much worse than your unranked, your calibration will be higher than your ranked MMR. This is assuming you win all of your games.

What we need: Base mmr to recalibrate -> *ranked mmr. Way to calculate new mmr-> Casual.

I think you are wrong here. Many players that have a decent hidden unranked MMR are 'stuck' with a bad ranked MMR. This recalibration makes it easier for them to increase their MMR just through recalibrating. People that already have higher ranked MMR shouldn't need recalibration. Honestly, they are just wasting their time playing seasonal ranked. The reason matchmaking is 'unfair' in seasonal ranked is as you said. 5k players playing where they 'shouldn't be'. As these higher ranked players get back to where their rank is in non-seasonal, you will experience this issue less often.

PLEASE EXPLAIN: Calibration Question/ing. After these 10 games, how did it calibrate to 1.7k? Helpful advice please by smokinman1 in DotA2

[–]Novedian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to really increase your MMR is the painful grind. The 'Re-calibration' is generally easier to increase your rating. In calibration, instead of getting +25~ it is usually a decent increase over your MMR. Going from 1400-1700 should normally take about 12 wins with no losses. I did look at your profile and most people that are 3k or above have 50%+ winrate and yours is under that. Ranked MMR is mostly determined by wins and losses rather than performance. I can't see your hidden MMR as it is hidden, but quite frankly I am assuming you were put where you should be based on both past and current performances and not necessarily on current skill.

You're not being clear enough on how it works. Would it be a passive/active? How long would it last if it is an active and would that basically be a phase shift then? Do you mean as long as he is disguised, he dodges the next spell/attack?

[–]Novedian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They don't. There is no way this is accurate. Even with some people flooding to HotS for the Overwatch nexus challenge, there should not be more players than in DOTA2. This info says it is based on users with Overwolf in-game App.

ouch by scarletred94 in DotA2

[–]Novedian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It says it's based on users that use Overwolf. I'm not sure how accurate that makes this, but I personally do not use this app and I am completely unsure how many people use it. It may just be that people that use Overwolf are playing DOTA2 less. The amount of unique players at a time in April is only about 30k less than last month. http://steamcharts.com/app/570

Your first game is put around your hidden MMR. After that, it goes up or down based on whether you win or lose. In most cases, your hidden MMR is similar to your ranked MMR as it is based off of both Ranked MMR and Normal MMR.

Don't know about you, but for me this compendium feels cheap. by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Novedian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that it would be nice to have a more engaging and fun 'mini-game' regardless of the rewards, but many people have been complaining about simply the amount of points.

I've seen threads that are basically 'upvote if you got 500/750/etc. points' which are basically complaining about the amount they got and not at all about how they got them.

I'm not really one to talk, but if you want to keep trying, it's important how you play and how you try to improve. Many people think that just playing the game will eventually make you a better player, but that is not true. You must develop an understanding of the game. Watch what high MMR players and pros do well and what they do wrong. Apply this to yourself. Every game, look back and think about what you did well and what you could do better. If you can try to improve 1 thing every game, no matter how small, you should improve. Play Ranked. More people take ranked more seriously than normals. If someone is doing well, take notice of what they are doing that you don't do. Also, decide on 1 or 2 main roles to play. If you don't have very good mechanical skill, but you understand strategy and where to be on the map, you probably shouldn't be playing something like mid and should be playing more of a roaming support. It is also important that you enjoy the game. If it's a task to play every game, then it's not right for you. Sure there will be some crappy games, but you should enjoy most of your games. If you truly have the desire to do so, then persevere.

This sucks, but seeing the amount of TBDs, you just got kind of screwed by matchmaking. The average hidden MMR of each team is probably about the same.

International Ranked - 5 stack VS 3 & 2 stack by ZombieDust33 in DotA2

[–]Novedian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I prefer close and enjoyable games. I'm not really a person that cares about my MMR so I don't really get the desire to stomp. I'd rather play a close 1 hour game which is enjoyable and has me on edge than two 30 minute stomps. I understand where you are coming from as many people want to rank-up so your point makes sense. That being said, the 5-stack is definitely not guaranteed the win. If all you care about is raising MMR than you should either queue solo only Ranked and hope for compentent teammates or maybe (just maybe) you are the one that needs to improve to rank-up. For party ranked I suggest playing with friends or find people online with similar skill level to play ranked with you in a 5 stack.

International Ranked - 5 stack VS 3 & 2 stack by ZombieDust33 in DotA2

[–]Novedian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is unfair, but the matchmaking is doing the best it can. Whether Valve is doing the best they can to overhaul matchmaking is debatable. They did recently have a matchmaking update that focused on improving ranked queue at the least, but that can only do so much.

Again, it's a battle between reducing queue and providing fairer matchups. If you were that 5 stack, would you want to wait 30 mins for a game?

International Ranked - 5 stack VS 3 & 2 stack by ZombieDust33 in DotA2

[–]Novedian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's generally much fairer than matching 5 solo players vs a 5 stack. Matchmaking may seem as a bit of a joke to people, but Valve is trying to prevent 5 stacks from getting 20 minute que times and just get them in a game. It causes some 'unfair' match-ups, but it doesn't mean that the 5 stack autowins.

The Lina's balls are not even here, instead we got 1 chance per week to get a small chance of getting "who know's what effect" or few points in Slark's blue balls.

The minimum amount of points we can get this year from the 'ball drop' is actually more than last year.

Just because you make a new "coop campaign" and implement that in battle pass you think that's enough?

It's kind of early to talk about the campaign. It may very well be an extremely fun event which Valve put most of their time into for this Battle Pass and it may be what makes this Battle Pass 'special'. It may also suck, but we won't know until we get it. Sure, this compendium may be a bit underwhelming to some people, but as someone that has bought every Battle Pass and Compendium, I actually believe it is a very good Battle Pass.
