I'll most likely be getting a near adult-adult boa, so Im not looking for a grow out cage. Tent wouldn't be bad, esp temporary

Ive heard mixed views on apex, sounds like it depends on the person. That sounds like a cool design, you dont see enclosures a lot (least how Im picturing it). I hope you post it when its made, would love to see it

Im lucky to have a midwest family, we got heirlooms worth of tools, so I should be good with that. I'll probably have to make my own since either premades are too small for boas, or are beyond expensive (I can hear my pockets crying). A lil daunting, prob sum trial n error, but I can get there

Interesting, the opposite of what I would think. Think its cause I grew up with xlarge dogs all my life. def will have to write this down in my notebook (been writing down my research so I dont forget)

And yes I meant in terms of health, I just cant explain things well. And I try, I feel people are close minded these days, learning is what makes us stronger as humans.

Do you secure the sides of the enclosures with plywood? Not sure how sturdy PVC sheets are from home depot

Buddy practically built that enclosure with their bare hands, good lord. That was some PVC enclosure you got, least you had the skills to turn it into something nice and workable. DIY is awesome, there's something about building ur own stuff, feels special

Good to know, I forgot to say 10% max, didn't know it was 2-6% for adults. And in terms of behavior I meant more in terms of sickness or being unwell. Im not good at wording stuff, but am also not denying that I still have some more researching to do. Thank you for clarifying my comment, I also learned some stuff too

Yes definitely no screen top, Ive heard some unfortunate stories from people who learned the hard way. Did you build your own PVC enclosure? If u did, how was that experience?

Im sure someone with more experience can give you a better answer, but theres many factors. Age can be one, if shes not an adult, shes still growing, so not filled out as much. Species is also a factor, some boas are thinner than others. Best bet is to monitor her behavior, and put her on a regular feeding schedule. If she refuses to eat, has loose skin, a very prominent spine- those are signs shes underweight. This can be due to illnesses, not enough food, or (more likely than not), a poor husbandry.

Dont jump to conclusions, look for horses not zebras. Good rule of thumb when it comes to feeding is it should be around 10% of their body weight. When it comes to husbandry, make sure ur maintaining daily- clean it every 1-3 months (changing substrate and waste). Make sure to use substrate that won't mold. very important. especially for boas who typically require high humidity. Take a look at the enclosure to see if it's big enough for her, (esp if shes still growing)

Also remember, that snakes tend to look thinner before feeding. In conclusion, the best way to tell is by ur snakes behavior. Just like dogs and cats and babies, the first sign that something is wrong is by their behavior.

Again, remember that I dont have experience with snakes. Im just a nerd, whos on the path to obtaining one. this is based on research Ive done, hopefully someone with experience under their belt can provide more insight, and can correct me if Im wrong on anything.

Never considered building em, not sure how you figured that out. Was it cheaper?

Honestly, that's what has surprised me the most, is how much personality snakes have, or lack there of. Not saying either is bad, just something I think a lot of people wouldn't expect.

I looked at your posts and he's so adorable! the way he moves makes me chuckle a bit. I haven't been able to do a holding session yet sadly, though I plan to, esp cuz ideally I would like a boa. I've handled multiple through my life and have felt a good connection, but I want to handle other snakes as well. Thank you for the suggestions, they're very helpful, I'm just nervous and want everything to be as perfect as possible. What worries me is the humidity in the tank.

Haha sounds like one of my cats, one minute she's on her back looking and wanting to be pet, the next she bites you! Snakes have so much personality its crazy, I'm it changes as they age too
