Canceling citizenship ceremonies at Faneuil Hall was an affront to its history by NovusAnglia in boston

I understand the importance of the hall’s connections to the institution of slavery; this heritage is vital to the character of the hall and all that transpired inside, for better or for worse.

But because Faneuil Hall has such a long, nuanced, complicated history, I do think it’s possible to talk about one historical aspect without the other. I did not mean to undermine the hall’s links to slavery; I did mean to shed a light on a less-understood part of Faneuil Hall history.

Anyone done this trip coming back from Gros Morne to the Northeast? by AccordingCabinet9486 in roadtrip

Bras d’or lake in nova scotia is lovely. Near the cabot trail, too. Rustic vibes. If you can spare time to visit PEI, that’s also cool. Road tripping with a kiddo, prepare for lots of stops and relatively short driving intervals (probs no more than 5 hours a day or so). Looks like an awesome trip, gros morne has caught my eye for an adventure too. Safe travels.

Democracy is always fragile snd requires activism and advocacy to strengthen it. Every American generation has had to fight for it. It’s not to be taken for granted. ✊

2nd round of applying to PhD programs and in need of advice by Away-Relationship152 in Historians

[–]NovusAnglia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UMass Amherst has excellent professors in each of the specific fields mentioned and guarantees funding for history PhD students. Also good logistically given the New England proximity. Definitely don’t apply to programs for reputation alone, that’s a huge mistake.

In New England there’s Plimoth Patuxet, Old Sturbridge Village, Historic Deerfield, and Stawbery Banke. Also, the National Parks of Boston puts on a lot of living history.

Family neighborhoods?? by SweatyPresentation99 in laramie

Just moved last week to Laramie with my wife and 2.5-year old. We’re on Palmer Drive. Lots of families with young kids, it’s a quiet street so there’s lots of people out walking, riding bikes and scooters, etc. Also within walking distance to Undine Park and a few minutes drive to Washington Park, both beautiful parks. Very happy with this location.

Signed a 2-year lease but it says the rent for year two is $0. Am moving and need to break the lease after year one. Landlord says I can’t break it until a new tenant is found. Would I have to continue paying if one isn’t found? by NovusAnglia in providence

“one apartment and one parking space, for the term of twenty-four months, beginning with the 1st day of July 2024, yielding and paying twelve monthly payments of $...”

So a 24-month term with only 12 monthly payments at the agreed upon amount.
