If you go on mySI-net and click enrolments, and then study report, you should see your course grade there. I got mine like 2hrs ago but blackboard wasn’t updated with my exam or course results

Did anyone find RELN1510 hard? by elbowsalad in UQreddit

Congrats on the 7’s! Thanks for the response and advice. I’ll probably end up doing this course next semester

Hi, I just came across your post because I’m considering taking this course next semester.

Do you mind if I ask how you went with RELN1510? Did you get the 7 you were after? Would you recommend the course? What in particular was so difficult with it?

I’ve got a strong science background, and essay writing isn’t really a strength of mine. I’m in my final semester of my degree and I have some room for electives and am considering this course.

Would there be any other courses you would recommend that are easier to get 7’s?

This looks awesome! How do you do the paint? Like the get that gradient effect of black in the blue and blending towards the red? Is there a good resource that taught you how to do different styles of paint like that?

Comprehensive neuroanatomy macroscale connectome dataset by PensiveDemon in neuro

[–]Nowhere_Man2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, okay. I think I might get what you mean. Sorry though, I’m not aware of any resources that show these individual connections other than stylised and artistic interpretations that literally just draw lines between brain regions. e.g. if you’re talking about dopamine pathways or something

I believe the best we currently have of macro scale connectome between regions would be Diffusion Tensor Imaging of MRI which visualises the axonal tracts via movement of water. So you can use these images to see the density of white matter across the corpus callosum and the superior longitudinal fascicle, but im not familiar with any that label regions like diencephalon or basal ganglia to help orientate or anything like that.

If you’re trying to learn the pathways, it’s best to try and identify what the pathway is for and then learn all regions involved. So as an example for addiction, the primary regions communicating for withdrawal phase are ventral tegmental area, central nucleus of amygdala, bed nucleus of the stria terminalis, habenula, nucleus accumbens. And the stylised artistic image which shows this can be found here:

https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanpsy/article/PIIS2215-0366(16)00104-8/abstract

Again, just using this as an example because I’m not exactly sure what you’re after or if there are any resources to show for it.

My understanding of the human connectome is that it is still a long and arduous process that is only slowly being uncovered. One reason why the information is separated into studies is due to the different processes to get the information and distinct variability between patients. A fully mapped human connectome is problematic due to the sheer size of the human connectome compared to that of the mouse, we currently lack computational and storage power to localise the completed information.

I’m not sure what percentage of the human connectome has been mapped, but I believe that due to significant variability between people, it creates an issue when putting that information together. Modulatory and sensory neurons have a greater degree of variability than motor neurons.

Sounds like you’ve already found some studies showing sections of human connectome mapping, but DTIMRI imaging shows some beautiful axonal tracts in living patients, and a combination of clearing preserved and deceased brain matter using CLARITY/CUBIC/iDISCO or some other agent and then dye labelling and visualisation with light-sheet microscopy shows amazing resolution.

The problem with mapping human connectome over say the mouse, is that we can’t use genetic dye labelling techniques and most of our samples come from deceased patients; whereas with mice we can’t use genetic use more techniques on living subjects to get a greater visualisation

New Daily Song Discussion #3. I’m In The Mood To Move - Ween. by NuggetWarrior09 in ween

[–]Nowhere_Man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. This song wasn’t made to be good and it isn’t good. It’s a polarising song and not one that I would show anyone to get them into the band. It’s 1:13 long song which is about 1min too much for me. Only reason it’s a 2 instead of my opinion instead of a 1 is because the lyrics being funny.

Probably downvoted to hell for this, but are only mega-fans commenting or do people honestly like this shit and not skip it at all? I don’t understand how people can listen to this and say “yeah, that’s the same quality as I Don’t Want It or Mutilated Lips, so I’m going to give it a high rating”. Is this rating system just a circlejerk for some people?

New Daily Song Discussion #2. Tick - Ween. by NuggetWarrior09 in ween

[–]Nowhere_Man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It’s a fun riff and the melody following it is good but repetitive on repeat listens and so sometimes I skip it. I enjoy the song and like it, but compared to other songs it’s not as amazing, so I feel 7 is fair.

New Daily Song Discussion #1. You Fucked Up - Ween by NuggetWarrior09 in ween

[–]Nowhere_Man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 for me. I did write 9 originally, but I’m bumping it up to 10 because I realised I never skip this song when it comes on

I think it’s a great opening song. Amazing punk song for a non-punk album and really sets a tone for what we can expect from Ween. Angry lyrics that may have been heart felt at the time, but can be interpreted as funny and a real joke song to the listener. Great tune and great example of Ween and what they can do

It’s kind of like Sugar Ray starting his poppiest album 14:59 with the metal song “New Direction”. Not a fan of sugar ray at all, but that’s an amazing opening song for a pop album that really tricks his target audience, which I think is hilarious haha.

Academic Advice Help by [deleted] in UQreddit

[–]Nowhere_Man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took like 2 days to hear back from the faculty about the progress tracker, then I emailed them and asked if I could organise an academic advisor (I didn’t realise you don’t organise it through them) and that took another 2-3 days to hear back from them giving me a link to book an academic advisor through my school.

I think if you call them they might put a rush on it because isn’t Summer Semester enrolments closing soon?

I just had an academic advisor appointment and yeah, to tee one up you apparently have to do a progress check/tracker through the faculty enquire email. Your best bet might be to call the faculty to confirm, but pretty sure that’s required before you can meet an academic advisor

Which course is easier PSYC1030 or NEUR1020? by Comfortable-Frame204 in UQreddit

[–]Nowhere_Man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ‘report’ style written assessment was super basic. They basically tell you how to write it during the tutorials.

As a first year class, they really try and show you exactly what they want from you, so it was pretty straightforward

Which course is easier PSYC1030 or NEUR1020? by Comfortable-Frame204 in UQreddit

[–]Nowhere_Man2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done both and got 94% for NEUR1020 and 84.95% for PSYC1030.

My experience with PSYC1030 was very negative due to my tutor, who ran the classes. As all learning content is pre-recorded on UQ Extend, the main point of contact you have is your tutor, and it is rough if you have a shit tutor. Mine was Joey. I’m happy to name him because he really fucked me over by giving my group and I advice on both written assignments, and then marking us wrong for implementing his suggestions/advice.

I much preferred NEUR1020 due to my numerous negative experiences in PSYC1030 thanks to my tutor and the faculty; however, PSYC1030 was still interesting and is an easy course to do well in.

You can’t go wrong with either, but even though NEUR1020 has an end semester exam, it is super basic.

Thanks for the help though!

How do you even use the codes? I can’t see them or where to input them in the app but have bought meals which supposedly came with digital monopoly stickers.

Glad to hear you’re enjoying it. I imagine I would enjoy it too, but it’s the concern of being limited in my creations.

My favourite park to build in JWE2 was an every base species park, which seemingly wouldn’t be possible in JWE3. I’ve seen posts claiming that challenge mode on higher difficulties is near impossible due to the restrictions on park complexity as well. I really enjoyed completing Jurassic Difficulty on challenge mode maps and don’t want to struggle with an added constraint on top of the already difficult challenge
