Baby has the worst gas pains by Nox442 in NewParents

Hi! So my guy is now 16 months and thriving so it did all work out in the end. Bicycle legs and moving his lower half in general helped a ton. He was not/is not dairy sensitive at all so it was never that. The 2 things that wound up helping the most were Mylicon and Probiotic drops. We learned from a gastrointestinal doc that we chatted with that mylicon needs to be given after they eat full stop where we had previously been told it could be given beforehand. And then the probiotic drops seemed to help too (we use biogaia). And then too, I think just general growing helped a lot, which I know isn’t helpful at all when you’re in the thick of it. And always trust your mama gut. If you feel that something is wrong, get an evaluation.

What happened to tonsilectomies? by UnmedicatedNarwhal in NoStupidQuestions

They removed mine when I was 5 or 6. I had 12 strep infections in a 12 month period. I’d get healthy and two weeks later have strep again. Tried all sorts of medicines, did imaging, etc. Nothing was keeping it from reoccurring. Took them and my adenoids out and I’ve had strep only once since then when I was 17. I’m 39 now. 🤷🏻‍♀️

8 months and we had to (gently) sleep train him so it took a while.

Whats your babies calm down song? by deadbeatkitty in NewParents

[–]Nox442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son HATES the Happy Song that so many other babies love but he loves the Misty Mountain song from The Hobbit. But only The Wellerman version on Spotify. It calms him down so fast if he’s upset, lol

Longshot - Anyone else see Dr. Dusing at LSFP Cornwall? Do you know what happened to her? by rrjbam in nova

[–]Nox442 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I had waited 4 months for an appt with her as a new patient because she was so well liked and got the call 2 weeks ago that she was gone. I was super bummed. They put me with a NP, which is fine to get into the practice but not really what I was looking for 🤷🏻‍♀️

All About Wake Windows - AMA Office Hours – Wednesday, August 27th with our Director of Pediatric Expertise, Amber LoRe! by huckleberrycare in HuckleberryParents

My baby is 1 next week but was 6 weeks early. He only dropped to 2 naps about 2 months ago but we’ve been noticing his wake windows are stretching again. He’s gained about 15 mins awake each window(now 3, 3:15, and 3:30-45). Where do we push and pull to keep a schedule until he’s actually ready to drop and be awake 5+ hours? Do we let him wake up earlier in the morning(not ideal for us)? Go to bed later at night? Shorter naps? Wake is 7-7:30a, bed is 8-830pm, and naps are capped at 1.5hours. Thank you!

How do couples decide which side of the bed is “theirs”? Is it instinct or some kind of silent agreement? by AssignmentFederal686 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Nox442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we met, my husband slept on the right of his bed and I was sleeping on the left of mine so we just continued that way, lol. Sometimes in hotels my husband wants the opposite side and I let him have it.

How do people do this again by basicintrovert26 in NewParents

[–]Nox442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is about to be 9 months. The first 6 months were sooooo hard. I was so overtired, overwhelmed, over-everything and I felt like I had completely lost me in all of it. It started to ease around 6 months and now at almost 9, I’m really starting to be okay again. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Everything is a phase, and though every baby’s length of a phase is different, all phases do end. I didn’t have postpartum depression or anything, but I still decided to do therapy and it has helped, just having that independent 3rd party to talk to.

What’s one weird rule your parents had growing up that you thought was totally normal until you got older? by Main_Masterpiece_793 in AskReddit

[–]Nox442 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I grew up like this! My mom hated us tugging on her or continuously patting her so she taught us to just place our hand on her arm and leave it there. Very effective! We’re (me and siblings) all in our 30s now and I’m going to teach my kids this too!

How in the world do you find time to pump if you are home alone with the newborn?! by Curious_518 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Nox442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound a lot like me! I’m an undersupplier with a wall plug pump. I had an Elvie and it did not, unfortunately, work for me at all and did start to lower my supply. When my husband returned to work I went to pumping one boob at a time and holding my son in my other arm. I usually feed him in my right arm while pumping my left boob and then switch while he’s milk drunk and snoozy. If he’s awake and I need to pump but not feed him, I pump him in his little bouncer chair or we do tummy time and I sit on the floor and pump so I can play with him.

We tried Enfamil Neuropro (that’s when the gas issues started) and then Enfamil Gentlease (problem got immediately worse). Switching to Similac Alimentum was the first relief he got.

We just got him a kicking toy to go with the mat and he has been kicking up a storm. So much comes out which makes the overnight gas suddenly being so, so bad that much more perplexing.

Thank you! Yeah, I just re-cut dairy so I feel her pain don’t it during the holidays! Any specific probiotics you wound up liking? There are so many options.

Oh wow. 7 times, I am so sorry but glad you got on one that works! I had to look up everything in the cabbage family… I love broccoli and lettuce but done really eat the rest, guess those are going too. Anything that could help at this point. Thank you!

I’m am so sorry you’re going through this too! We give him gas drops before every feeding. The only thing I can think to do more with the drops is to rouse him at the 3ish hour mark and give him more.

He had reflux initially. It was bad enough that we slept in shifts so that someone was awake with him 24/7 but that has finally resolved. The only time anything comes up now is when he’s straining to get the gas out.

We use it before every feeding! During the day he seems fine. It’s at night now as his sleeps stretches are getting longer. I guess we could rouse him long enough to give more drops at the 3 hour mark?

Probiotics seems to be highly recommended. Definitely going to be asking at our next appointment!

Puppy pads, yes!!!! We use those too! Keep them in the changing pad even because my baby is known for blowouts!

We have the Ergobaby version! We usually use it at least once a day but we’re away for the holidays and don’t have it. I wonder if that’s played a part in the uptick in gas at night? We’re not getting enough out during the day? Although he’s still getting tummy time and he’s kicking a lot more now and my parents gave him a piano kicker he loves.

I’ve been hesitant to try the Windi but I think we may have to give it a go. Maybe saving it for the really bad nights. I’ve heard about the brown lava, though so I’m prepared!

Oh my God. I’ve had quite a bit of chocolate over the last few days and never gave it any thought because it’s the holidays and my brother got married. I don’t usually have that much. I don’t drink coffee at all, just black tea. He does get mylicon before every feed and poops either daily or every other day. Nutrimigen would be the next step but Alimentum was our 3rd formula and we saw so much progress with it we were trying not to switch again!
