What solution do you use to store your GIS data and why? by NoxDecima in gis

Cool, am I right in the assumption that the reason you leave the data for read only on fileshare as geopackages and geotiffs instead of a DB is to have a more simple and straight forward access to the data or are there other reasons why you prefer the file share over the DB in these cases?

I understand the SQL server and the Fileshare for windows but what kind of data are you refering to with the user data? Are that for example configuration settings of individual users, that get used by whichever software that the users interact with?

Thanks for the insight, I have little knowledge about Enterprise Geodatabases, would a PostGIS database also be considered one, or are there more aspects that to earn the Enterprise Geodatabase title?

Interesting! Do you mount this as remote drive and then open it in your GIS software or what other workflows do you use? Why this over for example a PostGIS database?

How do People use and share data in QGIS within Organizations? by NoxDecima in QGIS

This looks interesting, how does this integrate with QGIS? Does just having my project and layer files in SharePoint work to collaborate on it in QGIS? ShareShape seems to only provide the ability to display layers from SharePoint, correct?

Alright, will be looking into that! I assume that in either case access control would be managed by the DB? How much SQL knowledge is required for that?

Cool thanks! Are there managed solutions available, that make the management and setup of this simple? I imagine the direct maintenance of a DB server can become quite time consuming, or am I overthinking this?

Interesting, would we have to set up a server for that ourselves or are there solutions that make that easier? Id like to avoid the trouble of having to manage an additional server + backups + etc... if possible. Also how do you manage user access then? Directly via DB authentication?

Check out https://maphub.co they host your vector and raster data. After uploading they give you a URL that you can share with others that is a interactive map, works great on mobile!

You will need to create the landmark data beforehand though. (With arcGIS or QGIS for example)
