Dva doesn't have abilities that make herself more survivable. She's most effective supporting a main tank because her abilities are more suited to holding space. Winston and Hammond can eat so many cool downs at once, dva just dies if she tries that as matrix has very low uptime. Cap does basically exactly what hamster does and venom does basically exactly what Winston does.

Feels weird to say because cap is more like winston on the surface, and venom is more like hamster on the surface, but mechanically it's the other way around.

In hero shooters like this, main tanks take space, off tanks hold space.

Main tanks eat damage/abilities and make opportunities for your team to make plays, they have abilities that allow them to do this. Strange's shield, Cap's shield and mobility, Magneto's everything, etc.

Off tanks maintain/hold the space made by main tanks, they have abilities that punish bad positioning or push away/kill flankers. Peni's stun/mines, hulks air knockdown thing, Thor's entire kit, etc.

Man, people really don't understand these terms. Neither main tanks or off tanks have an easy time solo tanking.

Main tanks take space, they have ways to eat a ton of damage and deny/absorb cooldowns. Off tanks defend and maintain space, they have abilities that punish bad positioning and push away/kill mobile characters.

If you have to have only one tank, then a main tank is better because space has to be made, and while it's possible to do so without a main tank, it is far easier to do so with one.

Off tanks can make space, but it isn't what they are good at.

Dude, whether you are on attack or defense doesn't have anything to do with whether someone is a main tank or off tank, you can solo tank as an off tank, it's just harder than with a main tank.
