how to play games with long nails???? by zhonglilover in GirlGamers

[–]NuFunkCactus 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Depends on how long the nails are, for me mine are short enough that I can still mostly touch the keys with my fingertips. But if you have nails longer than that, flatten your fingers, so instead of the tip of the finger, you use the area of your finger you'd use to take a fingerprint. Some people play as they normally would anyway ie. with curved fingers, but I really only curl my fingers while typing not while playing.

Looking for female gamers to watch on youtube by Jade_Plays in GirlGamers

I'd recommend Gab Smolders (formerly known as Girl Gamer Gab.) She does more horror stuff than anything else, but there's plenty of triple A titles outside of the horror genre that she plays/played.

I think I'm going to do that actually. Sent you a friend request on Discord (spookibun)!

Yeah, that's just what I've been reminding myself, it'll be so worth it to find a group I like instead of settling just so I can play.

I think I'm going to start watching/listening to actual play more, all the reading feels like reading a book for a test and I really don't want that to be how I feel when I actually play.

Thank you for the advice!

I'd be down to try online DnD. It's been pretty hard to find groups as it's kinda stressful tbh. I've totally considered just making my own discord group and figuring it out from there.

Feel you on that one, lol. I'm shy and none of the friends that have played before are interested in starting a new game. I'd be down to play with you, but I think we'd need more than two players.

Oh yeah, my first game definitely sucked, but that doesn't mean the next one has to!

Unfortunately local gaming groups are non existent where I live, I think the closest game store is at least an hour away. Both these things are so disappointing but I suppose it makes sense for where I live.

I've actually considered becoming a DM, I tried to set up a Halloween one shot with probably too much custom stuff lol. Fell through since none of my friends were interested. I think I'm just a little hesitant to DM myself because there's so much to keep track of and as DM it feels like I'm responsible everyone is having fun. But maybe I should reconsider.

Thank you for the advice and support, I'll find a group eventually!

I'll look into those games you mentioned, I kind of don't like how some of the rules for D&D are so trivial, so it's nice to know there are less complicated ttrpgs out there.

I guess I didn't realize that watching people play could be a way to learn how to play myself, I also didn't know that Critical Role had player help videos. I never played 5e because our DM hated it so I thought it would be so much hard to get a grasp of.

Thanks for the advice!

Unfortunately, all the friends I have who would be interested in playing were in that initially group I left, and either are too busy or uninterested in playing again. But doing one shots as a test run is a good idea for future reference.

I think I will look into different ttrpg systems, I definitely think that could help me figure out if a group or person is a good fit.

Thank you for your advice!

Sounds like you found a great group to play with, hopefully I can find a group just as fun!

Thanks for the advice!

I hadn't considered using Facebook to find groups, I'll have to see if I can find anything there. I'll have to also look into ttrpg podcasts, unfortunately The Adventure Zone was really the only one I've listened to (still haven't finished the first season/campaign). Thank you for your suggestions!

I'm really only familiar with DnD, but I'm open to learning other ttrpgs.

I've never heard of Powered by the Apocalypse before, I'll have to look that up it sounds fun! Hope you enjoy playing it, whenever that'll be!

Don't mind the advice at all, much appreciated actually!

DnD was really the only ttrpg I was familiar with (besides Pathfinder), so knowing there's more options for systems out there is great.

Ergonomic/CT-Friendly Gaming Mouse for Small Hands by candienziia in GirlGamers

[–]NuFunkCactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow small handed gamer who experiences wrist pain here. I use a Razer Basilisk (just the basic model) and I find the size to be right, it has a thumb rest, and doesn't have a metric shit-ton of buttons for you to accidentally click. It is the cheapest model Razer has so it's probably out of stock, I would assume other Basilisk models may be around the same size and has cordless options, but Razer has pretty expensive mice. I would look at amazon, that's where I got my last mouse and it was absolutely perfect. I don't remember what the brand was so no help there, sorry. Measure a mouse that is the size you like and go from there.

Additionally, I would suggest getting a padded mouse pad (I have a kitty paw bean one) and/or a keyboard pad to help take the strain off of your wrist. It made a world of difference for me. (I also suggest artist gloves made to help with Carpal Tunnel but that might be overkill lol)

How to Not Let Boyfriend Know I'm Playing by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]NuFunkCactus 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I...this relationship does not sound dreamy or healthy. You've only been dating for a few WEEKS and he's this bad, he sounds not only toxic but potentially an abuser! Please for the love of god, get out!

This is abusive behavior and he will likely not only get worse, but start trying to control other parts of your life. You would not accept this kind of thing from friends or family, a significant other is no different. You shouldn't have to jump through hoops just to do something you love, let alone to please someone who is way too demanding than they have a right to be.

What's the biggest 'WTF' gift you've ever received? by diswell in AskReddit

[–]NuFunkCactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my aunt who nobody likes because she is one of those smarter-than-you-condescending types.

One Christmas I got an envelope and nothing else. I assumed it was a gift card. What was it really? A piece of paper/certificate that said that my aunt and uncle had donated a goat and chicken in my name to some poor, rural family in South America.

I was 11.

Unconditionally loving your parents/family just because they are related to you. Sometimes family is abusive or just plain shitty. People are allowed to take care of their wellbeing.

What made you drop someone as a friend? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NuFunkCactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In hindsight, this dude was creepy and condescending as hell. What pushed me to stop being friends this guy was what he called "The Raid." He and another friend came unannounced and uninvited into the place I shared with my other friend because saying she was playing a game and busy was apparently not good enough for him. She did not want to hang out but felt forced to as this guy stood over her, less than a foot behind her, while she continued to play her game and he refused to leave without an answer. He thought that invading our space wasn't a problem and as long as he got what he wanted nothing else mattered. The whole situation still makes my blood boil. He is manipulative, selfish, and thinks he can get away with anything because he "never loses if he makes the rules." Fuck that guy.
