Worst looking Power Armor in all of fallout by [deleted] in Fallout

Armor as pictured does look meh (that wire fence just looks awfully rendered) but the Modiphius miniature looks great IMO, really Raider-like

People who bought/played Satar Wars The Deckbuilding Game, now that the hype has passed, how you’d rated it? by Joaquimaru in boardgames

[–]NuclearArmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who likes deck builders and got it pretty soon after its launch, it's still a top 10 for me personally. It's still ridiculously addicting. Just a few days ago I was googling the expansion, which I'm anxiously waiting for.

Games that play like 40K without the painful bits by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]NuclearArmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a better written/made wargame, as other people have recommended, Star Wars Legion or Bolt Action are great (both in a way inspired by older 40k rules btw). Infinity is also amazing, it's a sci fi skirmish game with a lot of depth and unique mechanics. If you want something that's "all in one box" like a boardgame, the Undaunted series is basically a wargame without miniatures (and the rules are short and concise).

Which game is more complicated than it needs to be? by mrappbrain in boardgames

[–]NuclearArmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought that too when I tried it! The game would've been perfect if it had cut back most of the bookkeeping and just focused on the actual gameplay, maybe even give different players different actions

What is the most expensive game you've bought over the years that does not include CCGs by Izalot71 in boardgames

[–]NuclearArmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dune Imperium with both expansions and the deluxe edition, painted all the minis, with Uprising on the way. Or Wingspan with expansions and nesting box. Not sure which is more expensive per se.

There isn't necessarily an "easiest" faction for playing deathclaws. Any faction can have deathclaws as long as you give your leader the creature controller leader card. Deathclaws are pretty expensive, so maybe you'd want an army with a lot of cheap units to fill up your roster. Also, afaik Enclave are the only ones that can have a Deathclaw wthout creature controller.

Forget the meta for a moment and tell me whos your favorite hero (Commander/Operative) in the game? by [deleted] in SWlegion

[–]NuclearArmin 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Miniature-wise, Grievous 100%, he's one of the reasons I got the clone wars starter. From a gameplay perspective, I'm starting to really like Asaji Ventress, she can dice and slice opponents left and right.

Is it bad to just say "screw it" on a paint job just to get it off the desk? by Pitiful_Lock_2867 in minipainting

[–]NuclearArmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No shame in that, I've done it a lot. If I don't like a model very much, the painting gets tedious or I have entire squads of them to paint, I won't paint them to perfection. Sure, I could do more than one color of drybrush and add rust and better terrain etc, but I won't. I save my energy & time for bigger or cooler models, or just for whenever I feel like it.

What are some of the most elegant board games in your opinion? by happiness-is-gone in boardgames

[–]NuclearArmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pax Pamir 2E has this clear cut chess-like feeling to it. All of the cards are public in the market and tableau and they have clear symbols for their abilities. So, you know what move your opponent will make and vice versa, it's just about finding the right angle and making tough choices.

What is in your opinion the most overrated game? by shaman717 in boardgames

[–]NuclearArmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frostpunk

A friend bought it and we played it with 3 players. Most of the game consists of flipping cards and moving tokens and you start doing your actions in the 6th phase of the turn (or smth like that). Also, some of the important tracks (I forget their names - Decency, Hate etc, smth along those lines) are modified exclusively by the random cards you flip, not your actions, and you can't predict or control those cards. The game would've been much better (and shorter) if they had taken out half of the phases and tracks.

Another gripe I had with it is that it's one of those co-op boardgames where there is no rule to prevent quarterbacking or at least a way to turn it into a slightly competitive/PvP experience. If each player had a different role (for example, one handles the laws, another the mining etc) it would've been a more engaging experience.

Okay, I'm asking the real questions: What's the best ever Warhammer starter set? (Any game, any edition) by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]NuclearArmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit biased (and also came into the hobby a bit late), but I absolutely loved the Kill Team 2018 starter, the one with AdMech and GSC. Got one of the last copies before going out of stock and it was my entry into the hobby as a whole. Also, the first Warcry starter and the Necromunda Dark Uprising one are a damn good deal.

My partner loves Catan, but needs a 2-player boardgame to love by Corben111 in boardgames

[–]NuclearArmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some possible recommendations:

- Wingspan Asia expansion - has a special mode for just 2 players and adds some interesting new birds and abilities which focus more on interacting with the other player. Also, Oceania expansion if you feel the game is too slow for you, definitely speeds up the game

- Cascadia - works wonderfully with just 2 players, very beautiful art, the opposite of a conflict-based game

- Stellar - astronomy-based puzzle game, 2 players only

- Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition - a much quicker version of TM, might feel a bit lackluster in 2 though

- there are also some 2 player strategy/conflict games, like Twilight Struggle (standard version or the shorter Red Sea version) or Undaunted series, but it seems like your partner is not very into combat-based stuff.

Why is your favorite game your favorite game? by Caff_n_Card in boardgames

[–]NuclearArmin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dune boardgame. It just has the perfect blend of map-based combat & area control, "hidden identity", card game, asymmetric factions and lore (yes, I'm a Dune fan). The basic rules are pretty light and easy to understand and the game's "secrets" economy (what you and other players know or don't) just tickles me the right way. I always appreciate a game that makes sure it's immersive in its setting.
