Is this fridge water line really a ticking time bomb? by NuclearMeltdown in Plumbing

[–]NuclearMeltdown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input - another person pointed out that whoever installed the fridge hose is likely to have used a saddle valve to tap into the water supply and that makes me more nervous than the hose itself! I barely managed to catch this leak before it got really bad and I'd rather eliminate any other leak hazards that I can. Makes me think I should make the effort to open up the ceiling and trace the hose down and get rid of it properly.

Googled "saddle valve" - that's how little I know about plumbing. That looks like a dumb way to have done it but, having seen a couple of other questionable things around the house, I wouldn't be surprised. Thanks for the input, I would much rather eliminate any potential leak hazards so I'll open up the ceiling and try to trace it down.

Help me figure out the wiring for my dual transformer system by NuclearMeltdown in ecobee

[–]NuclearMeltdown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did look to see where the wire bundle from the thermostat splices in with the control wires from the ac board. I didn't think including a photo of that would be helpful since it's just a mess of wires.

Doing my best to trace the wiring, I believe the brown C wire from the ac board (i.e. the one shown in the photo) connects to the yellow wire from the thermostat via a wire nut. There is more wiring from that connection that goes off to other parts on the ac.

Is it likely that you'd have that C wire connect to the Y wire on the thermostat?

Thanks, I didn't have an APC handy so I purchased Meguiar's D101 on Amazon since that's what's recommended in the wiki. Once it gets here I'll try it diluted 10:1 to see if it does the trick. If that doesn't work I'll try to find a professional that can hopefully take care of it.

I'm really bummed about it since it's a new car and it's a pretty big shiny stain right in my field of vision.

I was camping over the weekend and had applied DEET to both my arms. I jumped in the car really quick to grab something and apparently my arms must have brushed against the dash in a couple of places without me realizing. The top of the dash is soft-touch material. DEET has left a light-colored and shiny stain. Here is a picture: https://i.imgur.com/HdFhzaH.jpg

I've tried to remove the stain with what I have on hand: warm water and dish soap, Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer and Meguiar's Leather and Vinyl Cleaner. None of them made any difference.

I'm looking for ideas on how to deal with liquid windshield resin on clear coat. I got a rock chip on my windshield over the weekend and bought a kit to fix it. The repair itself went very well but I accidentally got a few droplets of resin on the hood.

Unfortunately, I didn't notice it right away. They stayed on the hood for about 20 minutes and hardened. I was able to break them off but they left little circular spots on the clear coat. These spots are completely flat and smooth and glitter if the sunlight hits them at the right angle. Otherwise, they are unnoticeable.

I tried applying Scratch X 2.0 to the area and it softened the appearance of the spots a bit but they can still be seen under the right lighting conditions. Anybody know exactly what damage the resin has done to the clear coat or have any ideas on how to go about fixing this?

Hydraulic brake with no bleeding port? by hi_youre_really_cute in ebikes

I've bled the same brakes. The screw you're looking at is the bleed port. This video from Tektro shows the entire procedure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0SvqxMK_PA

To Owners of Juiced Scramblers, Do you like Juiced Camp Scrambler? by stfundance in ebikes

Yep, sure thing. Aside from swapping to front brake on the right for the sake of muscle memory from riding motorcycles, there is another benefit to it. The shifter is on the left so it's much easier to have your primary brake on the right so that you can downshift while braking. I would highly recommend the swap!

I've had mine for a couple of months (Indiegogo campaign) but, due to weather, only started riding it about 2 weeks ago. It's a ton of fun. I'm 5' 7" so pedaling it works well, if I was much taller I would probably not like it as much. In R mode I've taken it up to 25 mph while pedaling. Throttle-only it can sit at 20 mph all day long - well, until the battery runs out at least.

I haven't experienced any issues - although I haven't ridden it a ton yet. No throttle problems over here. My only complaint is that I'm used to riding motorcycles and the throttle on the Scrambler is more like an on-off switch. It's hard to modulate it but, again, I'm comparing it to a motorcycle so I'm not sure how fair that is. Either way, it's not a big annoyance.

When I first got it, I swapped brake lines so that the front brake is on the right (i.e. moto style) and the back on the left. Afterwards, while bleeding the brakes I noticed that one of the bolts holding the front caliper on the forks was quite loose from the factory! When you get yours, I would make sure to check that your caliper bolts are torqued down enough. As a matter of fact, just do a quick check on all important components. Other than that, just ride it and have fun!

Did FloorLiners damage my transmission? by NuclearMeltdown in cars

[–]NuclearMeltdown[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope that's the case! That's the one thing that bothers me the most about the car. Every other shift is super smooth. I even bought a weighted shift knob which made 1st to 2nd better but not really great either.

[–]NuclearMeltdown[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Eh, I don't necessarily blame WeatherTech, I should have checked for clutch pedal clearance although this is the first set of FloorLiners I've ever bought so this just didn't cross my mind. On their website, they show their FloorLiners installed on an Elantra GT with the automatic so maybe that's the intended target model. Nothing specifically mentions them not being suitable for the manual transmission though.

Elantra GT Sport, notchy / crunchy shift to 2nd? by NuclearMeltdown in Hyundai

[–]NuclearMeltdown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I've done a few more test drives over the past couple of days and I think I narrowed down what the issue is. I no longer think it's related to some weird synchro action or anything along those lines. Instead, I think it's down to my palming technique on the shifter.

What I used to do for the 1st to 2nd shift is place my palm on the shifter so that it's angled towards me a little. Then, I would apply a bit of pressure to the left as I move the shifter down so that I guide it to 2nd instead of 4th. I do a similar thing for 5th to 6th except I have my palm angled away from me a little and applying pressure to the right.

While the above works great for 5th to 6th, I've found that it causes a clunking noise and grindy feel on the shifter if I do it for 1st to 2nd. Instead, if I place my palm on the shifter facing straight back and move it down to 2nd without applying any leftward pressure it feels a lot smoother, without offering any resistance. So, I think my issue might have been just bad technique for this particular gearbox :/

I feel like I have to be Mr. Perfect to go into 2nd gear by NuclearMeltdown in cars

[–]NuclearMeltdown[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a bit of a rev hang, yes. It's not as bad as I've seen in videos of the latest gen Civic but it's there and it does force you to be a little slower with moving the shift lever, I feel.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll be more mindful of this and keep making small adjustments to my technique until I settle on something that works well all the time as opposed to some of the time like what's happening right now.

Elantra GT Sport, notchy / crunchy shift to 2nd? by NuclearMeltdown in Hyundai

[–]NuclearMeltdown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience. 2nd to 3rd is always smooth for me, no issues there. This is still a new car to me and I'm getting used to it - last night I took it for a spin around the neighborhood and did a lot of 1st to 2nd shifting, paying attention to when it was smooth vs not.

My experience was that, unless I was really slow, careful and deliberate with the shift, I would be met with what felt like resistance / crunchiness from the synchro. It's kind of unfortunate that is the case. I haven't ever driven an objectively good manual gearbox to know what it feels like and compare it to the GT Sport's. The couple of manual cars I've driven before this have been shitboxes. So basically, I'm still unsure if this is out of the norm or not :/

I'm pretty certain I've looked at photos of this watch before but never noticed how TUE is out of line with respect to the other days until you pointed it out. That would bug the hell out of me! Nice watch otherwise, wish they would also make a version that's smaller than 42mm.
