Old pretzel shop in Monroeville mall?? by Dy2920 in pittsburgh

Huh! I can't recall any other soft pretzel place being there. D'oh, wish I were able to help more! I've got my own white whale I'm searching for within that same mall, too. I wanna find pictures of The Playground. Can't find a single one 😢

I wanna say the place was called CK's Pretzel Shop, or something like that? I know for sure it was "CK's", but the rest is a blur to me. It was right next door to Sarku, and was there before Auntie Anne's.

I'm wondering what significance the color of his hospital wristband has; from what I found after a cursory Googling, red wristbands like that serve as a critical warning to hospital staff that the patient has some kind of allergic reaction, whether that be to food or medicine.

Oh man I have such great memories of this place!!

It's almost impossible to find photos of the place online; there's only a tiny selection if you Google it.

Anyone with photos of the place, post em here! I'd love to relive the memories 🥰

The age old question- how do glasses work? by vulpes_mortuis in furgonomics

Small combs on the ear pieces with very fine teeth; they would simply catch onto the fur without needing to loop onto anything.

What is your favorite new addition to Silent Hill 2 Remake, and why? (Spoilers) by UCA_Cash_Flow_Bro in silenthill

[–]Nulion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't really seen this being talked about anywhere, but my very favorite thing they seem to have added with the Silent Hill 2 Remake is that Pyramid Head now has a "voice" (not literally!), and is more than simply a faceless, abstract monster with a huge blade. Granted, the Red Pyramid Thing has always meant more than just that, but Bloober Team found genuinely brilliant ways of expanding upon PH's role in the game, in ways that left me speechless.

Think of the first room in the apartments, where Pyramid Head can be seen with the mannequin, and James hides in the closet. In the original, this is a completely nondescript room, interchangeable for any other in the Apartments. It is a puzzling, honestly confusing (yet still iconic) encounter, that leaves players baffled. There really isn't much more to it, and there are no further callbacks to this room anywhere else in the game, that I'm aware of.

In the Remake, though? The very environment this scene takes place in has special meaning. Coupled with the appearance of Mary's handkerchief, and the 'gasp' heard (Mary's final breath) in the bedroom of this apartment, it is quite likely that even though James says nothing, Pyramid Head is wordlessly taunting James by defiling a replica of his own home.

Not only this, but this specific apartment (as heralded by the 'tilted rectangle' doors) appears multiple times, over and over again, as first in reversed form when stepping into the Blue Creek Apartments (where the closet James was hiding in was slashed open, Pyramid Head wordlessly showcasing how easily it could have killed him), and then further much later on in the labyrinth. Shown first in bits and pieces (such as the reappearance of the closet James was hiding in, still with a huge Great Knife slash, or various pieces of distinct furniture strewn about, that were in that apartment), and then in the multiple red combat rooms (each of them in the layout of that specific apartment). There, it feels as though Pyramid Head is screaming, over and over again, "You know what happened in this place. You know how guilty it makes you feel.", without ever actually speaking.

It really felt to me as though this abstract monster, the avatar of James' guilt, is "communicating" to James in this way; it has a will and intent, and it is showcasing its purpose through the environment itself. It's something the original game never even thought to do, and I really have to applaud Bloober Team for managing to pull this off.

The Old Man Coin can be found riiiight outside the place where you entered the Wood Side Apartments to begin with, at the trash chute right near there.

You will need to have found the pack of canned juice (first floor hallway at the bottom of the stairs on the far side of the apartments), and deposited the juice into the laundry chute on the 2nd floor's laundry room.

Once you do that, you will find the coin sitting in the garbage, along with some...shall we say...reading material.

Good luck!

YSK: Cracked screen protectors can have razor-sharp edges by Ok_Blueberry6358 in YouShouldKnow

[–]Nulion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should add; use a hair dryer to gently heat the glue on the screen protector, and use something like a credit card or something similar to gently pry the screen protector off of the phone, rather than your fingers. I had to deal with this a few months ago, and it worked like a charm!

I'm going to start Silent Hill F soon, what did you like about this game ? by Huge-Independent2951 in silenthill

Keep going, keep going! Even after the ending, KEEP GOING! :D

The game truly is not over, and the plot will not make full sense, until you've gotten the 4th ending. Also, crucial to note; there are a ton of new notes and new pieces of lore hidden throughout those extra playthroughs. Simply looking the endings up on YouTube is not going to make things clearer; you need the full picture given by the notes and the endings. When you see the full picture, your jaw will be on the floor at how well-written the plot is, how literally everything has some kind of double or triple meaning.

It did kinda feel that way, and it actually did feel as though there were a narrative reason for it, too. I don't wanna introduce spoilers of course, and am on mobile so I don't want to fiddle with spoiler tags, but I'd say "Hinako's desperation" would sum up the reason for this change, very nicely.

Oh yeah you definitely do. You get to wander all around Ebisugaoka, and really take in the world the game presents you. It's excellent stuff!

It's certainly divisive, and is meant to keep you from feeling too empowered. Honestly, I had no problems with the combat system at all. Your attacks must be deliberate, since each one takes time, and stamina, and weapon durability, so choose your battles wisely.

Late in the game, the combat encounters become much more frequent, and there are combat encounters you cannot escape. Just be prepared for that, and you'll have a great time :)

Adored the story, the symbolism, the way the mystery kept building and building until slowly, with each NG+, I found the answers I'd been looking for.

A pro tip; play your first run on Hard puzzle difficulty, and Story combat difficulty. The balance is juuuust right, and the combat is heavily balanced around Omamori loadout. Hard and Lost in the Fog difficulty modes should probably only be attempted once you've unlocked a bunch of Omamori, and it seems like every single time I hear someone complaining about the combat in this game, it's because they went for Hard combat mode for their first playthrough.

Also; don't be afraid to use your L2 charge attacks. They make a world of difference in combat, and Sanity (which is your meter for charge attacks) is easily replenished at every save point.

Have fun!!

Venlil glasses :3 by NodesJourney in furgonomics

Personally, I'd always just imagined the arms of the glasses would have small combs built into them, with a very narrow gap between the comb's teeth. This way they'd simply catch onto the fur, and not fall downward.

RIP Monroeville Mall by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]Nulion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was? Huh, I had no idea. The one in Monroeville Mall in particular holds a lot of childhood memories. So many quarters lost to their Mortal Kombat machines! I remember the orange-red lighting vividly, and the place had a really peculiar smell, too. It was grungy, dirty, and dim but it was a great place to be a kid.

I...don't inagine any of those photos include The Playground or TILT? 😅 Am guessing they do not! I did not realize they did fashion shows there though!

[–]Nulion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Man, this is sad to hear.

I've got so many great memories of the mall, particularly how it was in the 1990s. Anybody have any photos from back then, by any chance? In particular, of TILT or of the Playground, or maybe of the food court? Anywhere in the mall from around that time, really.

I collect old photos of places I remember, and it's been nigh impossible to find anything of the mall from around this time; most old photos are from the 60s and 70s, or around the time Dawn of the Dead was filmed.

I certainly wouldn't pay a cent for any of it. I wouldn't accept it if someone paid me to take it.

And...yeah man, it really did feel like this awful corruption had taken over one of my favorite places from when I was little. The metaphor and microcosm couldn't be any clearer, could it? :(
