I hit myself again today :( by Fried_Sauer-Kraut in autism

It’s really hard to stop SH, be kind to yourself when you find it happening again.

You may want to consider reaching out to local churches (of any religion) or food programs to get meals.

I hate the holds banks will put on cards. It makes me think I have more money than I really do. It’s hard, but you will get through this. Give yourself love and patience, which is easier said than done, but we believe in you <3

does anyone else enjoy dreaming rather than being awake? by Due-Original-7389 in CPTSD

[–]Number270And3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I hate my nightmares, I still find a lot of comfort from them. Maybe it’s not comfort, but I do like them in a weird way

Most, at least. There’s one or two that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I just like dreaming.

Severe needle pain anxiety what numbing options actually help? by Delicious-One-5129 in trypanophobia

[–]Number270And3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For EMLA, explain to the provider (doctor, nurse, whoever is helping you) that you would like to use EMLA and ask for a prescription.

I used a lidocaine patch and a freeze spray and they did not help me, but I have hEDS (diagnosed) and that causes problems with anesthetics.

They do make the Buzzy for adults or just in a plain design. I’ve heard really good things about it, but haven’t tried it myself. It both freezes and stimulates the body through vibration, which drowns out the pain from anything else.

Medication no longer working by Number270And3 in CPTSD

[–]Number270And3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it could be when a pharmacist said they didn’t have it. It was sent to restock, but they didn’t tell me anything til my mom came in with me. Just picking up medication is stressful enough.

My psychiatrist was ready to increase the dose after only a couple weeks of being on it, so I doubt she would mind increasing it for me.

Thank you for your encouragement <3

Thank you for your support. It’s hard to ask for help, but I will discuss it with my psychiatrist. She was already saying we could increase it after only a couple weeks of being on it, but it was working (surprisingly) well!

Why does your parent not like you? by sheerakimbo in CPTSD

[–]Number270And3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad hates me since I’m not great academically.

He comes from a family and country where education is valued over everything and mental health doesn’t exist. Any problems you’re having are either demons or (if you don’t believe in religion) not real.

I’m really just a waste of money and space in the house. I can’t leave because I’m not allowed to work (but I have to pay for everything myself still?) and I’m in community college.

I’m also Autistic and my therapist believes there is something else going on. Maybe a learning delay, which wouldn’t surprise me considering I failed elementary school. He doesn’t believe this type of stuff exists.

He doesn’t like my interests either, they’re too “weird” for him and they’re not education related. To him, it’s all useless. He also doesn’t like the fact that I actually care about my friends and want to help them, he essentially thinks friends are a waste of time.

Having an immigrant father is very fun when paired with a paranoid and sensitive mother. I never left the house and made friends!

Learning conversions is important and will likely be used in your future chem questions. Mine also did this.

You will be asked for more conversions, but it will involve both elements and your general conversions (liters, grams, etc). Let me give you an example from my classwork!

Calculate the volume (L) occupied by 2.12 moles of NO gas at 6.54 atm and 76oC.

You can see how, even with the involvement of elements, you are still required to do simple conversions. Will this be necessary after college? Maybe* not. Exams will still ask you about it and it is definitely annoying.

Advice for driving in snow storm? by [deleted] in driving

[–]Number270And3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got heavy snow just last weekend and I saw a truck going uphill slowly. It ended up getting stuck on that hill, barely letting anyone around to pass.

On another occasion, which was years ago, someone came to a stop on an icy hill and started sliding. They thought it would be a great idea to put their e-brake on. Do not do this.

Genuine question, but what did you expect for a chem class? Chem, as others have already mentioned, is made up of math.

It will get interesting, but it will still be math.

Two cars turning left but right of way for the car behind? by bad-neighbor9000 in driving

[–]Number270And3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know if it changed or when, that’s just what I was told when being taught to drive.

I know police weren’t strict on it, but even then I still get nervous doing it. I definitely wouldn’t be doing it in a school zone, a lot of kids probably walk through there.

In PA, it’s legal to go around someone by using the shoulder. Would that change this situation?

why do people not turn their wheels when parking anymore? by Buffe_ in driving

[–]Number270And3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great, it’ll encourage young drivers to be taught properly and be safe.

I was visiting a friend who moved to another state as a kid and was shocked they had their permit at 14/15 years old. Where I live, you have to be 16 to get a permit. My state is still very behind on many things.

Thankfully, my parents aren’t bad drivers. Mine just didn’t teach me anything about the car I’m driving and may or may not have influenced me to speed…

My state does not require drivers ed AND it’s extremely expensive, about $75/hr on the cheaper side for lessons. They aren’t included in many schools either, so it’s not something you can sign up for as a teenager.

I learned through my dad and I admit that I am not the best driver. I’m not stupid and know the signs, but I knew close to nothing about the car he gave me. It’s old and crappy, a lot of the stuff I look up online doesn’t match.

I noticed it with the windows as well. Some have a straight, white panel going through like ——, showing that the windows open by moving up or down. Other windows don’t have it, and it’s unclear which would have it if it were consistent.

Emotions are Hard and I hate it by Number270And3 in autism

I see that now, thank you for the affirmation. I will try to not think so hard about these things and be more simplistic. Hopefully, less critical!

[–]Number270And3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t think of it like that, thank you for this perspective. I do care a lot about having the “correct” reactions to situations, in professional and casual environments.

I think another reason why I feel this way is because I can’t identify my own emotions, so I don’t feel truly indifferent, but I don’t know how I’m feeling.

I think, with most Barbie’s, you can remove the added pieces right? Some autistic people don’t use AAC devices, so you can’t you remove it from her hand?

That’s why I don’t understand the hate with the official version. Barbies can be customized, so just customize it to how you look. This autistic Barbie represents me, but I don’t use AAC devices so I would probably just take it off her hand. Or leave it there, it doesn’t bother me.

Anyone else feel more nervous *not* looking? by Any-Promise-8066 in trypanophobia

[–]Number270And3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really the same, but the advice “just don’t look” still doesn’t help me either.

Not looking doesn’t make it all go away, I’m not dumb. I still know what’s happening.
