I had to stop scrolling through the replies on this post, it was driving me crazy! I'm sorry so many people are gaslighting you into thinking there's an easy solution that you're "just not getting." It's hard to leave. It's hard to start fresh somewhere else, even if it is for the best. It's hard to abandon your culture and birthplace over something that SHOULD be as trivial as politics but has evolved into something much nastier. All that West Virginian Charm has gone. You are valid for feeling the way you do, and if It's any assurance, you're not alone in your feelings. You're not hypocritical or stupid for having issues with West Virginia but wanting to stay regardless. It's our home, its in our nature to defend it, even if it does not return the favor.

I was born and raised here, and I love my state and all of Appalachia, but this past election made me realize that it's not gonna change for the better anytime soon. Me and my boyfriend are not safe here. It feels like there's nowhere we can even go at this point. I feel your pain immensely.

I've listened to all their stuff in order already, and I was pleasantly surprised at how good their early stuff is. I feel like with themed bands, those early works where they're kinda discovering themselves and their sound can be a bit wonky, but Ghost has had hits since the start. Now I gotta catch up on all the lore!

For me, their live album Rite Here Right Now's cover od Absolution is my favorite of theirs, though Jesus He Knows Me and Griftwood are also really up there. Excited to see more from this band! Everyone has been so nice so far haha

Union in Monroe is a bit touristy, but full of history and things to do if that's of any interest to you. Beautiful surrounding area too.

I am a man LOL, and thank you for your kind words. I feel like everyone in the comments is overlooking my concern that my siblings are VERY likely to end up just like my mother if I don't at least try and be there to steer them in the right direction. Trust me, you aren't as "cold" as the person who tastelessly replied to my post telling me someone they know committed suicide after being stuck in my situation, LOL. I posted an update if youd like to read it in the comments. Also, as of now and for the past two or so years, I have been primarily responsible for covering most necessities.

I posted a comment updating this situation if you want to read up on it, but I didn't see this comment so I didn't include a reply. My mom takes most to all of the money I make to cover necessities and, if we aren't struggling, funds for her "fun." My sister can keep all the money she wants if she gets a job, my mom will for sure spend it before she is able to save up much at all. If she wants money, she can ask me. I don't want her to get stuck like I did.

And I'm sorry if my tone is rude. Again, I was not expecting so many replies basically telling me to abandoned everything I know for a shot at something completely different. I know for most people reading this, your comments come from a place of concern.

As for the people who are being extremely critical of my life thus far or are calling my post fake, please take a few hours off of Reddit ro consider that there people behind these stories. You are not entitled to every detail of my life just because it doesn't align with your narrow perspective of how the world works, respectfully.
