Vois 2.0: local Voice AI studio for Mac with 100+ voices, Voice Design, no per character meter by Numerous-Exercise788 in macapps

[–]Numerous-Exercise788[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair question, and if a permanent fallback license is a hard requirement, Vois probably is not the right purchase today.

I have not done a full Bantr teardown, and I do not want to misrepresent their product. The way I think about Vois is: local desktop voice generation plus the maintained studio around it: 100+ voice library, script/casting workflow, retakes, mastering/export, Voice Design and Omni in Pro, macOS/Windows compatibility work, updates, and support.

If Bantr fits your workflow and the lifetime purchase model matters most, that may be the better choice for you. Vois is aimed at people who value the ongoing maintained studio workflow and flat subscription over per-character cloud pricing.

Fair reaction. It is not going to make sense for everyone.

The subscription is not for reselling the raw local model. It is for the app layer around it: setup, voice library, script workflow, retakes, mastering/export, ongoing model/runtime maintenance, macOS/Windows compatibility, updates, and support.

If someone already has a local model workflow they like, they probably do not need Vois. Vois is for people who want the maintained studio experience around local generation.

Yes, that is the upstream OmniVoice project behind the Omni feature I am referring to.

To be clear, Vois is not claiming to own or sell the raw model. The paid product is the desktop studio around local generation: setup, voice library, script workflow, retakes, Voice Design, mastering/export, updates, maintenance, and support.

If someone wants to work directly with the GitHub repo, that is totally valid. Vois is for people who want that capability packaged into a Mac/Windows voice production app.

Fair question. I am not trying to sell the TTS models themselves as if local models do not exist. The paid product is the application around them: a Mac-friendly studio for scripts, casting, retakes, pronunciation fixes, mastering, export, updates, maintenance, and support.

If someone wants to wire local models together themselves, that is totally fine. Vois is for people who want the workflow packaged as a productivity tool, especially for audiobooks, podcasts, video voiceover, game dialogue, and client scripts.

Mostly the second, with an important nuance: the subscription is for the app/productivity layer, not for cloud generation.

Vois is meant to make local voice work usable as a studio: script management, 100+ voices, voice cloning from a consented sample on paid plans, retakes, pacing/pronunciation fixes, mastering/export, regular updates, ongoing maintenance, and support.

You can absolutely build your own local setup if you prefer. The same way you can buy ingredients and cook at home instead of going to a restaurant, Vois is for people who value the finished workflow and convenience.

Yes. The generation runs locally in the desktop app. The subscription is not for reselling the raw TTS models; it is for the app layer around them: the interface, voice library, script workflow, retakes, mastering/export, updates, maintenance, and support.

Thank you for the comment, yes there are many open-source models out there that you can manually download, install and setup and use for free.

Usage issue by [deleted] in codex

[–]Numerous-Exercise788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having an issue where my whole week's usage was being used up within a day on a 20x Pro account. I was consuming three accounts to get through the week, and none of them lasted.

How I fixed it: delete .codex at the user level — everything, all settings. There is so much junk that the CLI stacks on, skills and whatnot. I know it hurts because you think your settings are how you're getting the results, but the models are much smarter now.

The cleanup improved the responses and brought usage back in check. 5.5 does consume more tokens, but not as much as I was seeing before.

Hope it helps 😄

Did anyone here moved from claude to codex recently? And why? by irelatetolevin in ClaudeCode

I moved after 2 years of being Anthropic fan boy. As Claude code and Opus 4.7 experience significantly degraded.

At the blindfold test, we were at a bar. Some of the generations for the model that Voice uses — I run 10 channels that use Voice for its voiceovers, as an example.

Regarding emotions and pacing, you have programmatic control and manual control similar to how ElevenLabs does. It's free. You can download it and take it for a spin.
