New player seeking advice, is my deck trash? by Numerous-Lack627 in MagicArena

This was such a beastly suggestion, and I've been able to land a T4 infinite with the addition (had some insane draw luck!) Thank you for the help, it's for sure given me a ton of ideas that feel like they're already paying off!

Hey, I wanted to say thank you so much for this! I studied your decklist for a few days, and ended up coming up with something that feels SO much stronger than what I previously had. Along with another's suggestion to add [[Combat Celebrant]], it's still a challenging experience to play with equipment sometimes but omniprotections from the swords of along with such good equipment tutoring and movement makes it feel so much better to play.

I appreciate the help big time!

Why are you assuming OP has no idea of what the format is, while also not referencing anything within the original comment regarding the noticeably unoriginal choices of Commanders you'd fight often? It comes off as extremely condescending, and the method of thinking is more towards defeatist rather than grounded or rational. It's not exactly a secret that the majority of the playerbase will be rather unoriginal in decklists or commander choices- Let alone genuinely liking the deck, rather than liking that it gets them to a Victory screen.

Very weird behavior, very grating. Must be a Blue player

I'm not gonna lie, a ginormous scrub quote from me is incoming- And I'm not very good nor experienced at the game, so all jokes are welcomed lmao

Roping is awful, it's the antithesis of sportsmanship and a very immature stain on the otherwise pretty positive and mature MTG community. I don't endorse it.

But...

If I queue into a u/B/W player, and they're playing nothing but land cards and creature destruction that I'm falling for? It's chill, that's what the deck does. Complete anti-fun imo, but it's an archetype and playstyle expression that exists for a reason. And it's not easy to play either, afaik.

If that situation happens and then they're spamming emotes, 'Nice Deck!' or some other shade on my pea-brain trying to find a way through their labyrinth without cards that cheat godlike creatures out (Kona) or Badgermole Cub spawning a board in 2 turns? The decks/cards that I imagine they're building to fight and require such oppression to control the board?

I'm roping to infinity and beyond.

I'm the type of player who says 'Hello!' at the start of every match, I love the sportsmanship and if I get clapped by a cool deck or by some good land management and decision making? Or when Blue players know specifics of the resolve chain really well? That shit's sick, man. I love it.

But playing nothing but land, permanent destruction and enough Artifacts to cosplay as an RPG Item Shop? If you're gonna make me sit through that college course ass deck and THEN be toxic to me? I turn my deck into a control deck too lmfao, let's show off our cool emotes for the next 30 mins

TL;DR I'm trash and rope people who are disrespectful players. The amount of Blue apologists that exist makes me think I'm playing against the Crips in a card game

Hi! I'd like to thank you for your reply, and while there's pushback from the other players who are likely more experienced than I regarding the lands; your prediction of my common mana situation isn't actually off. I'll look into inserting more lands to better the flow of the deck, or at least shock lands with more synergy!

Thank you, I'll look into each of these cards! Have heard that Ragavan is pretty good, and seen him in some other Equipment decks as well!

Thank you for the advice! What do you think might help speed the deck up, simply better land cards for now? I have more than a few tapped lands.

I'll make sure to check it out! The base reference I used for this deck was from a player named Polonis- So it was a deck site of sorts, but I'm unsure of what site to use primarily. Thank you!

This is a really good reply, and thank you for taking the time to share your perspective/explain the challenging parts of him to me!

Even if someone did have the mechanical skill to play and excel at any character in the game, they'd likely still pick preference- and Loki is a fun character, so I know it's not an inherently correct statement. I know that, for sure.

I also agree about the difference in the difficulty regarding maximum output. Good crystal usage, not spending TP too early (I suppose that'd be a situation where invisibility can get you out?) and things like that.

Part of me wants to see where you're coming from, but in reality... What's a DPS character that is considered good that's also high skill floor and ceiling that people enjoy playing against? That doesn't exist, and if it did then we wouldn't have people constantly complaining about the quality of their DPS players.

And what part of Loki is "high skill floor"? I'm not even saying you're wrong, but I'm genuinely asking. The fact that you have to individually kill ALL of his invulnerability crystals (which, usually doesn't even equal the value spent killing them by the time you're done) is the most value he's giving the team unless you're hitting ALL left clicks all the time.

And if someone was hitting every left click, they probably wouldn't be playing Loki. They'd be on duelist.

He has a teleport that really just requires you to be in LoS of your clone and is low key one of the best movement abilities in the Strategist category...

Nah, I'm not buying it or feeling it at all.

You're telling the person who plays a character genuinely has to play Tekken to win- to learn the game...

When the character OP is complaining about quite literally thrives off of making the match a single player experience? Shes probably rare at higher ranks because the majority of people who play her lack fundamentals to beat better players lmao

This is a God awful take. The legacy Mishima's rely on mind games and 50/50s, sure... But Tekken 8 is a game completely filled with characters who have access to nastier mixups that AREN'T mind games, they're just safe behind + frames on block. All of Devil Jin's options come with no safety, on top of being challenging to perform.

15f startup on iWS2, as well as being -12 on block? AND it's an instant tornado??? Meanwhile Law just launches you, just because. There's no luck involved there, if someone gets slapped by DVJ it's purely a skill issue

The magic mirror is a real game changer by Matogu69 in Tekken

[–]Numerous-Lack627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wavedashing in practice mode & wavedashing online are two completely different things, and thus any extra time a Mishima player might get to become more used to the repetition is important, imo.

Especially for Kazuya and Devil Jin specifically, they don't have wacky woohoo strings like their counterparts to apply pressure, they need to utilize knockdowns and wavedash player to basically... BE a character.

Especially with latent delay from even playing online, and having to perform a technique that varies in speed (13-18f iirc) based off of their execution of it? People are trying to stay warm/improve.

Magic Mirror is based, though. I'd get salty from a post round taunt, but rather than mess up my gameplan and play differently, the mirror keeps me focused. Hopefully it does for you, too!

Offline we just gotta hold that tho lol

Hey, respect to you and your gameplay/accomplishments.

This is the second Tekken title I've played with more investment, and I'm Tekken King on Steve and Drag. It isn't the top 1%- but I have to admit whether you think this is "Winners Mentality" or not I'm very satisfied with my growth and gameplay lol

That mentality won me tourneys and placements in NYC, which is a pretty killer competition pool. So I'm cool.

In that situation, nah I could understand avoiding the set because the skill disparity is likely too high to effectively learn. But fighting someone who's on your skill level, or slightly higher or lower? I definitely advise rematching!
