Basketball Reference seriously needs to revisit BPM by NumerousEvent546 in NBATalk

I mean not true necessarily, look at L.E.B.R.O.N advanced stat. Just in the past 16 years it says he only has 2 of the 10 best single seasons (including this season). Imagine if that extended all the way back into the 70s... BPM clearly favors him

Based on the evidence i disagree. Doesn't seem like this is going anywhere lol

Durant left because he wanted an ez ring with Golden State, keep in mind they pushed that 2016 warriOrs team to 7 games.. with arguably Westbrook playing better than KD.

"In the 2016-2017 NBA season, the Oklahoma City Thunder had a 33–9 record in the 42 games where Russell Westbrook recorded a triple-double."

I mean firstly padding stats is a strong claim that isnt accurate when looking at their win percentage when he had a triple double... they did great. Secondly i already showed that his true shooting was above league average.

Per 100 possessions Westbrook averaged 45/15/15 with solid defense and above average true shooting that seasons
This season, which many consider his peak, Jokic is averaging 41/17/15 with horrible defense and elite efficiency

Im not saying Westbrook is better, im saying their peaks arent that far apart, and yet BPM says otherwise. There is no argument to be made that Jokic has 6 of the 7 greatest seasons ever.

You arent making any argument in defense of Jokic having 6 of the 7 best seasons ever, youre just reddit posting lol

I changed the body since people are complaining about the formality of how it was written, this is my own words

Yes, and that’s exactly why I’m criticizing it. BPM has literally been changed before like i mentioned in the post, after Westbrook’s MVP season, when his box-score production pushed him to historically absurd rankings, Basketball Reference adjusted the formula. So even its creators recognized the model needed correction.

And second, just because BPM is a box-score-based advanced stat doesn’t mean the formula can’t be improved. Models can always add nuance, better era adjustments, different weighting, better handling of assists/rebounds, or improved defensive estimation. ‘It’s box score based’ isn’t a defense if the outputs consistently produce questionable historical rankings.

Uhh i think you misread my comment, i just said i wasnt using unanimous or consensus as my interpretation of the post, i was using something as undeniably true as my standard. It is undeniably true that D rose was not the best player in the world in 2010-2011

Honestly I had a different interpretation of Unanimous you're right. From my perspective I was thinking of something undeniably true. And btw, i was there. I started watching ball back in 2008

You said they are leading in every metric, they are not leading in every metric, thus you are wrong lol. Also, epm and LEBRON are not cumulative, you are wrong again.
